The only one I can think of is Urban Dance Squad.

The obvious: Golden Earring Probably not mentioned so far: Bots (they published also songs in German). I was once in contact with them regarding a concert. But there fee was too high. Some of the other mentioned so far should have come to my mind when thinking longer.

I don't think Abba is a dutch band; swedish I think. And we could discuss whether it is a rock band :) But I can be wrong.

What do you want: 1 Dutch origin (as in The Netherlands) 2 Dutch speaking (as in Flemish and Dutch) 3 Singing in Dutch (and not English) 1: Golden Earring 2: The Scabs, Hooverphonic, Channel Zero 3: Cpex, Belgian Asociality And with that I assume you mean really "rock" or heavier as main stream, because I know a lot of artists which have an occasional rock song or have an extensive protfolio in another genre. Does that suffice ?

I've not listened to them in a while, but I've now added them to my spotify playlist for today. Jan Akkerman ... the amount of time I've spent attempting to learn his guitar parts. Another sorely underrated guitarist who doesn't get the recognition deserved.

The key to learning Akkerman is having mastery of off time-signatures and being able to string three or four different time-signatures together in the space of eight bars. Oh, and being able to play behind the beat while doing so.

 ... in addition to you having to ignore anything you've previously learned about music structure and tonality! I could never (and still can't) get my head around how their tunes are structured, as you said, especially their time signatures. The only way I could even attempt to muddle through the guitar parts was to learn the separate parts, and string them together as a collection of riffs. I'm listening to Moving Waves just now, shocked at how much it sounds like later period Floyd, they must have been listening to this before they made Wish You Where Here.

Love Potion No 9 Raised On Rock is the 1st song that comes to mind (nice chunky rocking intro guitar riff), they're still frequently played on Planet Rock. How many Les Pauls does you friend have? ... any time I've seen any of their pics/footage, I'm always like "Whoaa, nice gibson!"

That's funny. For years, Mickey was a Superstrat/PRS guy. They got endorsed by Vigier for a while but Mickey hated the guitar they made for him so now he's rocking out on LPs. You'll be able to hear their new album which comes out this year.
