What do you listen to when coding? Me it is a combination of alt rock electronica and podcasts!

Total silence, unless I'm working on something that doesn't require any concentration at all--then I may play some music. I actually want to pay attention to the podcasts I subscribe to, so there's no way I can listen to them while working. I don't subscribe to podcasts to provide me with some background noise.

When I'm heads-down coding, I usually listen to a few things depending on my mood. But I don't want the music to have lyrics. To me, that's distracting. I use the Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones connected to an iPod nano. 1 - Classical/Symphonic Music I have a play list of primarily tone poem works like Respighi (Pines of Rome, Fountains of Rome, Roman Festivals, Brazilian Impressions...), The Planets (Holst), La Mer (Debussy), Also Sprach Zarathustra (Strauss), some other works like instrumental concertos. A lot that I can just set it and just let it play for hours. 2 - Spa Music from Kohler Water Spa Had this for years since my wife and I visited there in Wisconsin for our 10th anniversary. Loved the music. Bought the CD then. Have used it since. Very relaxing music to block things out. Link[^] 3 - Dixieland Music 4 - Light Instrumental Jazz 5 - Classical Guitar

I use an ipod nano as well, so do you leave your phone in the car or somewhere in your Desk to avoid further distraction?

My missus moans because I'm not there, when I'm away at work, but when I'm home she just moans.

Whatever I feel like... Really just about anything. Currently I listen to quite a bit of experimental and psychedelic (black) metal like Aluk Todolo, New Keepers Of The Water Towers, Oranssi Pazuzu, Ufomammut, Watain... A while ago it was more electronic music, dance, trap, dubstep, but also trip hop and chill out. Sometimes just whatever, bit of jazz, rock, pop, what have you. Also currently on my playlist are Parov Stelar, Neurotech, Ghost, Igorrr, and even Babymetal. I'm not bound to any genre :D

The only way I can stop my Missus moaning is by having sex with her...no wait...scrap that.

Silence because when I turn music on, someone always starts talking to me.

I may not last forever but the mess I leave behind certainly will.

If it is too noisy from coworkers, I fire up the pink noise loop and imagine bacon sizzling in the pan.

You and probably 10,000 others are interviewing currently. They interview thousands of people because they people constantly quitting. Average person lasts year-18 months. If you make it to the onsite interviews its 5 or 6 in a row, where the people ask the same cult-like questions and follow up questions.

It varies but today it's mid-50s doo-wop...Frankie Lymon, Jarmels, Moonglows, Cadillacs, some of the best street corner harmony ever recorded. Fast rhythm Speedo to wake you up, followed by slow ballad Sincerely to mellow out. And those lyrics...Rama-lama-ding-dong, sh-boom sh-boom Other days it's jump bands (Louis Jordan) or swing (Benny, Artie and Glenn). And every few months I take in an opera (Wagner and Bizet).

I do not play music, although I did write a song with a buddy once, it was the lyrically like NIN to a folky Bob Dylan acoustic sound! If I was to do anything in music i would be more like Bernie Taupin! :)

Music. Almost every programmer in our company has headphones on most of the time. That way everyone listens to what they like without annoying everyone else around them. :)
