Sad to see the Okie From Muskogee is gone. Local radio station played a lot of his songs yesterday. The appeal? It's blue collar, working class, no pretense (I'm excluding the pop star crossovers here). Haggard wrote songs that related to everyday life: "We don't wear our hair long and shaggy, like the hippies out in San Francisco do" Course I was one of those long haired types back then but I still liked the song.

It's like other genres, most of it is awful but some of it is outstanding - some great lyrics, great musicianship and often social commentary

I was thinking about who will be at the funeral service: Kris Kristofferson, Willie Nelson, Jessie Colter, Loretta Lynn, Crystal Gayle... that would be an AWESOME experience... think of the after service get together...

What's the appeal of pop music? What's the appeal of rap? What's the appeal of disco? What's the appeal of classical? You see how that works?

Hey, it's Johnny J. That's true for any topic, not just C&W.
