That is evil and cruel. I like it! :-D

I forgot to add that I no Jehovah's Witnesses knocked on my door for the remaining few years I lived there. You could say it was a job well done.

OK - then let them set up a damn booth and I'll come to them if I feel the need. In the meantime, it's thoughtless, rude, and inconsiderate regardless of how pure the declared motives may be.

So, you don't share pizza with your wife and kids when you get some? How rude and selfish.

And yet, for some reason, that only seems to apply if the "something" involves magic sky-pixies. If I turned up on your doorstep every Sunday to tell you how everything you believe is wrong, and how abandoning magical thinking in favour of logic, reason, and rational thought would make your life better, I'm sure you'd be the first to complain about "shrill" atheists trying to shove their "beliefs" down your throat. But reverse the situation, and I'm supposed to put up with religionists regularly telling me I'll be tortured for all eternity if I don't abandon logic and embrace their beliefs.

No one is at your door every Sunday. So, let's keep this in perspective and not exaggerate so much.

Nope. I deal with it almost daily on CP. I have no problem with you believing what you want.

Only a fool would tell you to abandon logic. And only a wise person would realize logic is not the only way to know something. :^)

Really? Now who's exaggerating? ;P Also, there's a difference between choosing to visit a website and read messages from atheists - frequently responding to messages from religionists - and having someone turn up on your doorstep to make their point in person. Also also, I don't recall ever seeing an atheist tell a religionist that they're going to be punished/tortured for all eternity for not thinking the right thing, saying the right incantation, or making the right sacrifice to Dawkins on the un-sabbath day.

Nor is how I divvy up a pizza with my family (per your earlier post) remotely akin to a relevant perspective. I know a certain politician or two (current election cycle) that when asked a question they don't want to answer simply create another thread to distract from the topic.

Neither do religious people, at least not most. It appears your only "experience" with religious people is what you read on the news and you should know the news is only reporting the extreme cases.

Yes - we are different. Since I don't subscribe to your particular view of how people should treat one another you declare my view "EVIL". Well - I look at it this way - a system of beliefs that declares (and has done so for millennia) that if you aren't brought into their fold then you'll be damned to hell-fires for all eternity. Then, of course, they claim they believe in a god of love - well burning forever doesn't cut it in my faith as an act of love. The arrogance of your other disparaging remarks (per how I think, feel, and otherwise interact with people) is typical of what has been referred to throughout this thread as 'bible pounders'. I don't give them a line of crap about "The Good News" - I just get down to helping out how I can without any strings attached. And - if they ask me why? Well - the answer's pleasantly secular: because we should help one another. Not for any eternal reward - but simply because it's the right thing to do. If, afterward, they give thanks by praying to a rock, a cow, an idol nailed to a cross, or overweight man smiling - that's good for them. Read: Malachi 1:11 - and learn - If there is but a single deity than all ways are his way. At least according to a prophet (which trumps a minister/preacher any day).

First off, none of my remarks have been arrogant so I apologize if you thought they were. Even more so, none were disparaging so again, you must have misunderstood something I wrote.

So, if God were real and did have a plan for you, you wouldn't give a crap? That seems awfully foolish but I do respect each person's right to believe what they want.

Malachi 1:11 "From the rising of the sun . . ." The prophet is telling the Children of Israel (chewing them out, a bit, actually) that there are other peoples (translation of Gentile) and their sacrifices are accepted because that is what they know and believe to be the truth for worship - so it is all to Him - in all their diversity. The opening reference is a reference to all of the earth - and thus all of the people in it. Interestingly - if one looks into Judaism, they do not teach that everyone must become a Jew. Those who are or wish to be so have taken on greater responsibilities - but it is by no means the only route to what you call 'salvation'. Nor, is it in fact, promised to those who do/are Jews. It's an amazingly enlightened view - yet is far older than the current more popular systems of in the world that keep billions in thrall. Hence, no Jewish missionaries. You could learn a lot from what I consider "The Ancient Ones". Now - as for your idea of a "Plan" - I consider The Deity far above wasting his time by planning out how life on earth will unfold. If so - what is the purpose since the entire stage is set. Rather - given free choice - we can descend to the depths of depravity or rise above ourselves. Then, seeing how this plays out "good vs. evil" - "selfish vs. selfless" - that would be worthwhile.

Actually, it's a prophecy that one day the Gentiles will believe in God. But not sure your interpretation really adds to the conversation anyway, at least not that I can see.

Not the type of plan I was referring to. Very simply put, the purpose of life on earth is to become like God. That we can live forever as families and have joy. That is why we want to share it with you. Not because we are evil.

Which one? There's hundreds to choose from, and most of them demand different things from their followers. And if that really is the purpose, why do so many religionist frown on scientists "playing God"? Surely that's precisely the sort of behaviour they should be encouraging. :)
