I stocked up before everyone went crazy and started hoarding ammo. I got most of mine 100-200 rounds at a time at walmart.

Liberals, avert your eyes - I'm gonna be talking about guns. My dad recently passed away, and I inherited his 1957 Winchester Model 94. It was purchased new in 1958 for the frightening sum of $79.95 along with two boxes of ammo (which he still had). This gun has never had a round chambered, and as you might guess, is in "like new" condition. Along with the rifle, I got the original store receipt (from Sears), as well as some correspondence when a list of service parts was requested, along with the returned exploded drawing of the rifle, and the service parts list (and cost). The exploded view and parts list are printed on glossy paper stock and is dated, July 1 1956. I want to go out and shoot the rifle, but it's essentially a 60-year-old virgin, and doing so would immediately degrade the exceptional value of the gun. However, just in case I succumb to the urge, I ordered a Williams peep sight. It bolts to the gun through existing holes in the receiver, so at least I won't be drilling into anything to mount it.

JSOP you are so refreshingly non PC it makes for pleasant reading. Don't think us non gun people cannot appreciate a fine piece of engineering that has been preserved so well. Do use it if the value to you is higher than the monetary value is not important. Personally I'd preserve it but then I'm not interested in firing weapons. I hope your dad left on good terms...

Yeah. That's why people (okay, I meant to say liberal commie bastards, but I was trying to be sensitive) saying an AR-15 is so "dangerous" because it's an "automatic". Same deal, one trigger pull, one shot.

Nah, don't think they'd be commies....historically the commies have always like their firearms for all those executions of imperialist capitalist types and armed insurgencies and the like. Liberals probably, bastards definitely.

Hey, man - don't be so negative. The Trump may get elected, and then you'll get 200 rounds free every week, AND time off work to practice. Worked for the English, when we kicked some French butt at Crecy and Agincourt - mandatory longbow training every Sunday, subsidized by the squire. Actually, I sometimes wonder if that English law had some input to the Second Amendment - it was damned effective.

You are completely right. If a new person would have posted this same message many would have suggested it go to the soapbox. High rep members are definitely favored, or perhaps just trusted more.

I am equally deadly with a bow and slingshot (and I do pretty well at casting stones, too). I mention this just in case any of the liberal serfs here dare suggest we go back to medieval weapons.

I will do it, but look, the latest comment to me from Dave K* it is an example again how high rep responds to low rep here. I'm not sure to stay here :( Bruno

I have low rep, but I've never really been on the receiving end of (truly) negative treatment in any area of the forums (and I've definitely said some stupid shit!) At least not to the level that would make me feel unwelcome. My perspective is that the higher rep people here are actually rather nice, level-headed people; a stark contrast to most of the rest of the internet. Maybe it's related to username? (Wouldn't that be an interesting psychology study?) That name on my account is indeed mine; for whatever reason (I genuinely don't know) I don't feel the need to hide behind a pseudonym here (and certainly do almost everywhere else.) Maybe that helps to humanize me, which leads to more humane treatment... Then again, there are also certain people here who seem to be bigger a-holes than the rest (not naming names!,) so maybe I've just been lucky to not have interacted with them.

You have to drill another hole in the receiver and use a different sear. A matchstick won't do it.
