SOLVED :: Customer needs to send 1GB... what free tool would you recommend?

Drag and drop files, search for any button that would allow to upload content... Nothing on the window so I've not been able to upload any content.

Hello. I do not use Drive but Onedrive requires that you login to edit a folder or file. In Onedrive, unlike Drive, the buttons show up when you open the shared link but, when you press one of the buttons, it asks for a login. Maybe they do this to prevent gigantic anonymous uploads that would exceed the account limit.

OLD QUESTION: I do have Google drive here, but the customer doesn't. The customer is not tech savvy and he won't spend a € on a software solution to send that file. What free and easy-to-use software would you recommend? Even better if we don't have to install anything... I have thought on setting up an ftp server which would be easy for me but not easy for the customer. What would you use/do? Thank you very much!

At the end the customer has used Google Drive (he has installed it in his computer) but this was already mentioned and looked by far the best option. :thumbsup:

I've even tried it locally with my google user logged in without luck. It can be a bug a problem on their servers or myself, but nothing worked... I think onedrive was easier to work with. But it's been a long time since it's last use here... Thank you for posting! :thumbsup:

Try https://file.pizza works great. But if sending sensitive info, encrypt first.

Try https://file.pizza just don't send sensitive info unless you encrypt.

Either Dropbox where he can send you a link to it and you can download or you can send him a file request and he will upload it directly into your own dropbox. Another alternative would be Bittorent Sync, extremely easy to setup however you both need to have your system running at the same time for it to transfer the file across. My workaround to that problem is setting up Bittorent Sync on my always-on server so files will be transferred from the clients computer to the server and when you turn on your computer, it will download it from the server.

Most Services you pay for will let you share a link (Google drive, dropbox, AWS-S3) I use S3 more these days, even thought it is a tad more complicated for me, but it lets me have a web link to the content specifically for that content, and easy for me to disable public reading. Storage is cheap. Tiny files go through drop box. Huge files through S3. Lots of big files in Google Drive where I can share the folder. Sometimes it depends on the customer. Remote access to their machine keeps my support costs low. Sometimes it is faster to put the file on their machine for them :-)

FTP, copy a link to it and include the link in an email. Most browsers can directly download from FTP. You can even include username/password in the link, however, I'd most likely just add the file into an anonymous readable folder on the server. Of course some of the cloud storage servers also has anonymous downloads. As far as I remember Google Drive is one of them that don't, but this is my major reason for still sticking with DropBox and Box - at least the recipient isn't "forced" to subscribe. Though they are bombarded by an add page when they click that link ... nope FTP and nothing else is as easy for the recipient and yourself as the sender. You could add a HTTP download if you've got access to a web site, but that's more work on your side and not at all easier for the recipient than a FTP link. And then depending on bandwidth normal snail-mail may actually be faster. Probably not with 1GB, but when you're nipping at the 1TB mark I'd definitely look into sending a disc by post / courier.

I can't believe how painful you made this simple task; and how long it took for you to consider any one of the useful suggestions that were made.
Well, yesterday I asked the customer to use wetransfer (which was by far the easiest of the proposed methods) this morning the customer came back with a message telling me that he had installed Google Drive. Painful? why? :confused: And yes, probably this is the first time I don't write in the topic line the problem has already been solved, but, now that you say it... done it already. :thumbsup:
