Got the team to finally give up Hipchat in favor of Slack. Had countless issues with Hipchat being able to connect to its own servers and stay connected during the day. I worked with their support, but they never figured it out! No I'm hoping that Slack lives up the all the hype!

The UX is much less important than being able to use it. Can't connect == uninstall!

Key thing to check fist[^] We got license for office365, Lync(aka Skypeforbiz) etc & we've also been using Hangouts, WhatsApp and so on. Now there's a team that boasted using Slack and pushed everyone to use it at work. They wanted to feel themselves like "NASA", (As they say , some team in NASA uses slack and similar brags you can see in slack's home page) I once made a post on Slack here saying it's nothing so big. One merit, (Few other merits also) I recently noticed is that It's got a centralized control of the users/messages as there's a concept called "Team" , "Channel" etc. This is huge missing piece in Hangouts & WhatsApp. For example, a gruesome employee does a gross mischief at work and he's fired. If you've been using Hangouts/Whatsapp all along during work, All the work related messages' copies would be left in this crook's account. You don't have control over these. Slack got that control, I find this a big positive. Like a mini-ActiveDir. Other good thing I notice is the speed , right from sign-in, messages, notifications everything comes quite quick. Having said all these, the brag_team never checked the price tab in Slack. Which says only the top 10,000 messages only you can access for free. Above which, all older messages get pushed to the abyss, you cannot access. Just the chat session about "WHY WE LIKE SLACK", in slack itself finished that first 10K messages quota. Everything counts. Even if you post a simple ":)" and press enter, the message counter ticks! Now all those people who posted stats on how they stopped using Emails, Hangsouts blah blah, lost all those important links they posted long ago before in slack. That's quite a shrewd marketing trap you see!. They can't access it until they move to next tier. Now our management is thinking if they should pay money again to slack in addition to Office365. They wouldn't move this soon. So ALL_SLACK_BRAGS_OFF at work. They are back to emails and using slack just for normal light talks. :-D

Starting to think people post kid pics in their profiles because that was the last time they were cute - Jeremy.

We have a Confluence Wiki, also from Atlassian. If Hipchat's anywhere's near as good as that, run to slack and don't look back!
