Wow, haven’t been here in a long while - thought I’d stick my head in the door and see what’s what, and also share a story of me being an idiot. I started getting into WPF/MVVM quite a while back now, then work got in the way and I dropped it like a hot potatoe. Then work got very quiet and I ended up losing my job (but luckily found another almost instantly) before I left I copied off***** the WPF/MVVM stuff I’d been playing with so as to pick it up again later. Now is the time to pick it up again as it looks like I’ll, once again, be unemployed – but that’s another story. So, I get out the USB Drive with the Projects I had, try and open the files and – #Best Family Fortunes Noise - UHH-UUHHHHH# - Access Denied! I completely forgot that there had been an update to encrypt all local files on the laptop just before I left, and I hadn’t copied off the encryption key! Stupid boy. So now all the stuff I had learnt and struggled with and neatly sorted out and made sense of, is useless – completely unreadable. At least I still have all the bookmarks of the best articles I used the first time around. So, here we go again... :^) * = BTW the stuff I copied off was completely 100% NOT company confidential information, I was using the work laptop at home in my own time to learn something new. Heck, I doubt they even have a clue what WPF is!

Save your good stuff on github or bitbucket then! Both offer free Git account! And you can even make it a private git account on bitbucket! ;)

All in one Menu-Ribbon Bar DirectX for WinRT/C# since 2013! Taking over the world since 1371!

:-D OK - for the future this sounds like a plan!

Ask the NSA/GCHQ if they have a back up key.

          Regards, Rob Philpott.

+24. Too bad I can't up-vote anymore for this. I save EVERYTHING in Bitbucket, that needs/is worth saving.

USB drives are typically FAT, and you have to reformat them to make them NTFS, which few people ever do. FAT doesn't support the built-in file encryption, so unless they used something else, or you reformatted the drive to NTFS, then its probably just an access permission problem -- try taking ownership of the files and directories on the new system.

We can program with only 1's, but if all you've got are zeros, you've got nothing.
