    Whenever I want to "borrow" something online, I try to get a torrent file, but sometimes the site has as well, or perhaps only has, a magnet link. They both seem to work with my client qBitTorrent, although the magnet link type doe not seem to have any info associate with it, leading me to believe that it could be a honeypot of malicious intent.

      A torrent file contains a checksum of a finished movie, and length in bytes It farm calculations out to peers to calcualate all combinations of bytes at a certain length that contains a valid movie header So you can recreate a full movie from a little torrent file

              And once you have constructed the finished file, your torrent client serves the seed for random number generator, to generate the correct bytes faster

                Ah, so torrents are for sharing files, and magnets are broken links. Gotcha.
