I want to suggest Chris, please create a "Home Work" tag in QA. It would be very helpful to newbies. :)

If the denizens of the lounge cannot follow directions, why would those seeking help with homework?

Hah! We are lucky if we can get them to tag it with the right language ... and half of 'em try to pretend it isn't homework anyway!

Actually, it wouldn't. Their "question" would get closed by the QA police faster than they could post it. :^)

Often it isn't. Frequently it's a case of "my employer told me to write X, hav u got codez plsss?" so "homework" is a bit of a misnomer.

Exactly. Also, I would not mind helping students with their "homework" if they were up front an honest about it and showed that they are trying. I don't see the harm. The core mantra with this site is learning, yes? -- learning and getting better. I could be wrong... :sigh:

Yes, I've no problem at all helping people with actual homework assuming that they've tried. I jalways love those "what I have tried" sections that read "I can't code or use Google so I'm asking you lot instead." It's nothing if not honest ...

"Once, when the level of background magic on the Disc was young and high and found every opportunity to burst on the world, wizards were all as powerful as sourcerers and built their towers on every hilltop. And if there was one thing a really powerful wizard can’t stand, it is another wizard. His instinctive approach to diplomacy is to hex 'em till they glow, then curse them in the dark." --- The late, great TP, "Sourcery"

Most people are rubbish at giving directions, anyway -- e.g. in Birmingham, the only direction reference points are pubs: "Turn left at The Nag's Head, turn right 237 yards past The King's Left Bollock", etc. So not following directions is usually preferable.
