Japan is very strange sometimes (at least by Western standards). I know a few Japanese people from IPFW, and they think things like this are strange as well, so not everyone there is like that (thank goodness!).

What do you get when you cross a joke with a rhetorical question? The metaphorical solid rear-end expulsions have impacted the metaphorical motorized bladed rotating air movement mechanism. Do questions with multiple question marks annoy you???

I agree. I worked for a company that developed hardware and software using autosteroscopy, VR, hands free, and haptics technologies. The products were focused on training for the military. We had several visitors from various companies interested in the technology. Interesting enough, most of them were from the porn industry.

Minitel, VHS (Over Beta Max) and the Internet all succeeded because of porn so yeah, nothing new here. And whats going to make lifelike robotics succeed? Yep, sex dolls. And the Japs will be first with this, they already have a large industry making them. Question is, will it be legal to have sex with a 2 year old robot even if it looks 16? :)

If you think that's unique to Japan, you are sadly mistaken. Even in the early days of VR (long before it became a consumer technology), teledildonics was a word coined for this type of activity. See what happened in the US when they put free to use Internet kiosks around the place: Techcrunch[^]

Yeah they are there, but really they need to ramp up production to get a good rile out of the over religious that seem to think they can control everyone's life. I am thinking they should be about as common as a toaster. That'll do it.

You know what is really crazy though... Yes we all know there is a dark perverted side in Japan, but on the face they are by far the most humble and shy culture I have ever seen. Any sort of PDA (public display of affection) is frowned upon. So maybe they are on to something. Their culture accepts dark sides and they don't then have to deal with in your face blasting from every angle humanities dark spots. It seems in the US we do the opposite. We have a cult of people (*cough* religious *cough*) that want to control everyone else private lives and then there is a rubber band effect that snaps back in their face (and everyone elses) in a large "FU" Here is a parallel (non sex related) example. Gambling is illegal in Japan. In other words no casinos taking and money and handing it out. But "what about Pachinko?" you ask. Good question. Well a long time ago the government (and the society) realized it's going to happen. If you let it happen in a controlled fashion it minimizes the collatoral criminal behavior (little to no violence etc.) FYI, Pachinko parlors work by having two independent businesses. One business, the big shiny for all appearances "Casino" is more of an "arcade". You give money and get little metal balls to play pachinko. Playing pachinko gets you more balls (if you win) and you keep accumulating them. Eventually you weigh out and get a "prize". This prize could be a real prize for you to take home and use (electric scooter or something), or you can take the pack of cigarettes that has the little sticker on it. Take that pack of smokes across the street to the independent business and they will buy it from you for hard cash. Legal. But obviously a loophole that the state allows to minimize collateral criminal behavior. This is true for any private behavior. The zealots need to get their panties out of their arse and realize things like prohibition simply do not work and actually make things far worse.

Computers have been intelligent for a long time now. It just so happens that the program writers are about as effective as a room full of monkeys trying to crank out a copy of Hamlet. The interesting thing about software is it can not reproduce, until it can.
