Yeah, I know the feeling - I dump live prey as far away as possible most days. :sigh: Today was a novelty though - Dij has never brought in a fish before. Only a little one, but gawd knows where he got it. It's brown and dull (and somewhat chewed) and the river is moving far too fast for him to go fishing, and it's too boring to be a pond fish.

Check around your neighborhood for gollum carcass. A smart cat would let someone else get wet and then take the fish.

Did the cable modem have any kind of surge protection? If not, what would one suggest as a workable option? I don't even want to think about losing the cable modem... that would be a bad day...

Don't believe in them. :) Why you ask? Something I read years ago that said most of them are useless and don't actually protect from the most common kinds of spikes. Granted, my info is about as old as when politicians actually were worth their paycheck.

I'm impressed with the phone hotspot. Casual surfing, that huge pic of the spider web, the SpaceX interplanetary video -- all were very snappy! Marc

No, it's a fish (or it was) - fish eyes, fish shape (blunt front end tapering to a small tail that looks like a arrow fletching), about 3 inches long. Yellowy-white belly. In the near dark I thought it was a badly battered slug at first... :laugh:

Curry (the orange cat, surprise) knocked over a lamp which broke the bulb, pieces of glass all over the rug. When I plugged in the vacuum cleaner and turned it on, it popped the circuit breaker. The power surge fried my cable modem, so now I don't have "real" Internet access until the cable guy comes tomorrow morning. Currently using my phone as a hotspot, which is working quite well. Then, an hour later, I hear this thump followed by squeak-squeak -- Earl Grey (gee, guess is color) had caught a mouse (his second in 4 days) in the bedroom! I chased him (the cat) downstairs with mouse in mouth (the cat's, not mine), grabbed a glass and lid, and managed to get Earl Grey to drop the mouse, still very alive and kicking, which I managed to trap. Mouse is now back outside. Hopefully he'll know not to come back where a cat can catch him. What a fun day for all! Marc

There are a lot of feral cats around here. Regularly I go out to the large bins and as I throw in a bag one or more street moggies shoot out; quite a good trick really. The down side is at the weekend we went swimming with some friends and while walking back through the town a cat attacked our friends' puppy. It was a nasty quick fire premeditated assault. I grabbed the dog and picked it up, he was very scared, while trying to get rid of the cat. Eventually I had to kick it away; not an action I take pride in. It was only afterwards that we saw the feline slink away to the nearby tree where her kittens where hiding. The puppy was no threat, but she obviously thought any dog was a danger. Oh and I found a dead kitten beside the car when we went out yesterday morning. I try to explain to the girls that these are not pets but feral and have to be left to live wild.

I would never have figured you for a Luddite, Marc. ;P Surge protectors work beautifully if they're properly rated. The problem is that most people buy the cheapest one available and expect miracles. I look for the highest joule rating I can afford, then use that to protect the UPS I keep all critical components plugged into. If the protector fails, the UPS batteries serve as a backup protection device, albeit an expensive one. Although we get vicious monsoon thunderstorms here, I have yet to lose any device to lightning or other surge. I use my phone as a hotspot, too, and you're right - it works great! A lot better than Nish's did when I met him, at least. :-D

Nika left a dead mouse in my bedroom not long ago. After three days the stench was so horrible I decided to just clean out my entire room, that's when I found it... X| She also woke me up in the middle of the night because there was a butterfly. She was sitting triumphantly next to it and then when I looked at it she stopped meowing and decided it was time to catch it. As soon as she reached for the butterfly it flew up right in Nika's face. Hilarity ensued :laugh: Really, you've got to love cats. They're little live bundles of joy :D
