AFAIK Blender is pretty unique in its completeness, if you want free software. What did your Google search show? :) There might be other open source packages for more specific tasks such as modelling, particle effects and whotnot.

Blender is widely used and free so that is what I use. Not sure what else there is. Perhaps google 3d modeling software.

As I am artistically and drawing challenged but I was always good with lego I hang out on 3DSlash with the kids when I want to build basic 3D models :-) I have built entire villages for unity using it ... ok I am bad.

For money, ZBrush[^] and 3DCoat[^]. After using them, each has its place at this point, although 3DCoat has the potential to be the most useful and do everything except the final rendering once it overcomes its problems with creating self-intersecting meshes. (It can render, but not in the fully controlled way Blender can.) (edit - If you want to go subscription model, Autodesk's products are a possibility. I have no experience with them.)

trueSpace[^] was always the most interesting of them all. ** Edit - link to a better fan site with download available truespace[^] Unusual, and not really supported any longer - became free when Microsoft bought the company. definitely worth a squiz

Over the years, I have probably watched twenty of his video clips; both "safe for home" and the "**NOT** safe for home" varieties.
