Probably will be, a "department" like that becomes a handy dumping ground for anyone that doesn't fit or work well anywhere else. What is the department's goals? What is it's driver - either one discipline becomes dominant or more likely none and remains rudderless, it's not going to suit anyone, no way to measure performance (excuse for lower bonuses), daily fights over what matters. Dumping ground, exit waiting room, only real achievement will be staff reduction by attrition.

Sin tack ear lol Pressing the any key may be continuate

Hi, Happy New Year everyone. Ok till last month, I was working in a technical department and all of a sudden our tech director (who was working from last 20 years) resigned. So 20 years of knowledge gone in 3 weeks. Technical team had development, design and IT support guys. Now the management decided instead of hiring a new tech director they made commercial director our head and moved product managers and few marketing guys to our department. Now our department consists of developers, web architect, designers, IT support guys, marketing assistants, product managers, commercial director. Now it's no more just technical team as we have marketing, commercial people in our department. So biggest dilemma facing us at the moment is what we call ourselves as a team. lol. And the first rule is it can't include digital... And that's the end of the rules Any suggestions?? Thanks

The last company I worked for was making the transition to centers of excellence as I was leaving. I hear that it isn't working as well as they expected.

Don't worry - soon you'll roll over, fall out of bed, and realize (whilst gratefully rubbing bruised limbs) that it was only a nightmare.

The About-to-Fail department because that's what happens when you put non-techies in charge of IT. Every time.

I'm not sure which is more optimistic between your suggestion, and the one I was about to make ("doomed to fail")

I'd go for "The F%$#ed-up by the Inclusion of Marketing Morons" team. Time will tell the tale, as more and more of you are replaced by marketing morons, as the extant marketing morons talk themselves into ruling the roost. Learn quickly how to get your points of view across to managers, etc, or you'll be trampled on. "Getting profitable work done" now has to take fifth place, after five levels of office politics.

Digital Disaster Zone - allowing marketing anywhere near the developers is a recipe for a total clusterfuck. I would be getting my CV in order, update your networking skills and be prepared to jump ship as there is a rather large hole in the hull just below the waterline.
