Engineers are cold and dead inside

[The results were clear-cut, apparently: engineering students cared nothing for other human beings' feelings and had few of their own. They were cold-hearted and uncaring, remorseless human machines. By contrast the medical students were warm and bursting with empathy and love.](https://www.theregister.co.uk/2013/01/21/engineers\_cold\_and\_dead\_inside/) It goes on to say that "computing students, once gender effects had been eliminated, actually came out basically the same as medical and caring types: they had turned out to be normal, warm, caring human beings. It was in fact the physics-based classical engineers who were dead inside". We know what a load of BS that is. Devs are cold fish too, just like the rest of them.

and there it goes... another super relevant study nonsense waste of money...
M.D.V. ;) If something has a solution... Why do we have to worry about?. If it has no solution... For what reason do we have to worry about? Help me to understand what I'm saying, and I'll explain it better to you Rating helpful answers is nice, but saying thanks can be even nicer.

Just use common sense - medical students are persons planning to make a living off of the misfortunes of others - and impoverishing many of them on the way. The only thing medicos have empathy and love for is the big piles of cash they drain from the economy. The alleged miracles they perform? Without the scientist and engineers designing and building equipment for them, they'd still be left with leeches and chants.

I assume that in the article, "trick cyclist" is slang for "psychologist". Mathematics and the Physical Sciences (including Biology and Medicine) have innumerable observations that may be verified by anyone with the appropriate equipment. I will only take the so-called "Social Sciences" seriously when they can point to a single observation of theirs that may be similarly verified.
If you have an important point to make, don't try to be subtle or clever. Use a pile driver. Hit the point once. Then come back and hit it again. Then hit it a third time - a tremendous whack. --Winston Churchill

Reading between the lines of the article it sounds like they were testing the students for Autistic Spectrum Disorders so it's not that unusual that the engineering groups got more "hits" for Autism than with the med students.

He obviously doesn't have a clue what a trickcyclist is, which kinda nulls his views on psychology.

Trickcyclist is a "psychiatrist" malaprop -- from the 50s, I believe. It's fallen out of fashion, these days, and his use of the word while he's trying to sound all important and intelligent only make him look like a childish idiot. As for the "research", it's obviously well worth spending tax-payers' money on reaching the conclusion "not everyone is the same".

Solving diff-e-q's gives little time left for empathy - especially with the cold and uncaring teaching institutions we've saddled ourselves with. Make everything to do with medicine involve calculus, and I'm sure the study would have different results.
Sudden Sun Death Syndrome (SSDS) is a very real concern which we should be raising awareness of. 156 billion suns die every year before they're just 1 billion years old. While the military are doing their part, it simply isn't enough to make the amount of nukes needed to save those poor stars. - TWI2T3D (Reddit)
