Yeah, it's true. I've checked fragmentation on my disk. No problems there. I even ran c:\>chkdsk all good on that front. I've downloaded Kaspersky virus trial since machine is acting so odd. Scanning now, but I really don't think that is it either. Well, unless Win10 _is_ a virus. :~

This is something like the 4th time I've rebooted tonight. First time, tried to unlock my computer and it wouldn't stop showing the login screen. Nothing. Power off. 2nd time, tried to start Chrome. 100% disk utilization. Nothing. Powered off. 3rd time, 100% disk utilization. nothing. powered off. 4th time, tried to start Chrome again. Nothing. Powered off. I'm using MS Edge to post this. Is there a MS Update going on? Can't tell. Just more Win10 shenanigans I guess. Edit I attempted to start Chrome again and disk (HDD) went to 100% and at that point I cannot regain control of the machine again. Had to power down and restart. Also, earlier I was able to just barely get to TaskList but I couldn't kill Chrome. Edit 2 (2017.03.03) I found this report from someone else. Same experience I'm having:

Last night I noticed that Edge was missing. Then I noticed the Store was missing. Did all the steps MS says to do to fix things like that....nope. Still missing. Ah, well, I need to reinstall anyway, since I got a new motherboard with an M.2 drive I'll use for "C:". But that's not the point.

mate, I was going to say 'you're special' :) but no, we all know the myriad of hardware, drivers etc that can cause issues like this - It would be interesting I guess to ascertain what % of people with issues are new installs running on new virgin purpose hardware for example vs upgrades etc

I'm on hardware made for Windows 7, a Lenovo T520i. Upgrading to Windows 10 was no problem, and Windows 10 upgrades have been no problem. Windows now even has generic drivers for the laptop's features that do a better job than its own.

My problem was with the Anniversary Update, that *every day* for six months tried to install itself. Every day it failed and rolled back - a process that took about an hour. Even worse, it removed my Shutdown and Restart options, replacing them with 'Update and Shutdown' and 'Update and Restart'. I'm surprised it didn't replace Sleep with 'Update and Sleep'. So any reboot was taking an hour. Then, mysteriously, last week when I was on the point of formatting the drive, it succeeded. The machine started off as Win8, then went Win8Pro -> Win8.1Pro -> Win10Pro, so was probably a more difficult update than most. Even so, it was a complete PITA, but now seems OK.

Same here with a certain security update, but it failed after 5 minutes, paused for 5 minutes and tried again. I have disabled some services to prevent auto updates completly. But after reading your post, I guess I will give it a try again. Wish me luck ... :)

Your issues aren't really with Win 10 though are they. It appears the problem is with your Chrome installation at least 3 of 5 reboots. Have you run H/W test, RAM, graphics etc?

That's very simple. I had installed Win7 when the whole updating circus began. It told me that I would get no forced updates unless I activate windows. So I did not activate it.

It's about time Microsoft got their act together and fixed Chrome! "Doctor I hurt everywhere, I hurt here...here...here...here...here" "That's because your finger is broken"

You can safely connect it to the Internet; just don't switch it on.
