This bloke charges Rs. 500 pm + Rs. 5000 installation charges. I'm not a "heavy" Internet user. Just checking 3 mail accounts + CP. Nothing else. The phone bill ain't all that high. The connection is slow and sucks, though. I'm goin to B'lore on 3rd May for internship. Will be there for 1 month. This company has 128K cable connection. Looking fwd to getting my post count up. Not worth the 1 yr left before grad. Win2K- this modem wouldn't work. Anyway, I have dual boot with WinXp (triple boot, actually- I also use RHL 8.0). ME is really good for playing AoE - XP suffers makes me suffer with just 128MB RAM. Oh, yeah, I appended "WinMe user" to my name in the original post just to "stimulate" you guys. Hey, I'm not a winme fan! It does have its adv, which I'll save for another thread. All I'm asking of you blokes is Don't ridicule anybody using WinMe. Vikram. Yes, but cable internet is still not available in most cities. We don't have it in Durgapur for example. :( I could have saved billions on phone bills and become rich otherwise.

...not really. In fact, it sucks! Whenever I mention here that I'm using Win Me, the immediate reaction is one of contempt and ridicule. Not that I mind, but others might... If a person is using WinMe, either #1 - He is too stupid or #2 - He's not doing it out of choice (I fall into this category, I hope). My own case is a strange and terrible one. I got WinMe when I bought my PC 'cos it was the latest available. In many aspects, it's better than 98 (I'll save that for another thread). And more importantly, my modem works on WinMe works only on WinMe and not on Xp. But you can look at blue screens only for so long...and reboot only so many times a day. So I'm stuck with WinMe, due to the modem problem. So, think positive. Don't make fun of guys using WinMe- they're having a hard time with the OS as it is, and you only make their lives worse by making fun of them. If I were to meet a person using WinMe, I'd prolly assume #2. I can only ask you to do the same, too. However, you could argue that with Windows users, they're stupid unless proven intelligent. Amen! I recently reverted to Win2K Server from .NET Server Beta 3. I'll have to wait a few months for Server 2003, or whatever its called at the moment.

As far as I'm concerned anyone intentionally using WinME deserves all the crashes he gets. :-D As for your modem only working with ME and not XP, last week I bought a brand new PCI Winmodem for $40 (and that's Canadian dollars), and it has drivers for just about every Win32 OS. As much as Winmodems suck from a technical perspective, if it works, then that's good enough for me. Don't stick with a bad OS just because of a piece of hardware that can be replaced for cheap.
