I'm looking for a gift for a friend who's a gadget freak and was wondering what the gadget de jour is these days. Any suggestions on something under $100? cheers, Chris Maunder

How about a USB flash disk? These things are sweet! Better than a floppy. EZDisk has a 256MB disk for $86. Check it out! http://www.ezdisk.com/products.php

Working for Timex, I can suggest our latest Data Link watch. It's USB based and holds a lot more information than our previous versions. You can change the order of modes in the watch, as well as which modes you want. There is also an SDK so that people can write their own software that runs on the watch. There is Outlook support as well. It should be at a retailer near you very soon. Check out Timex Data Link[^] for more info. You may also go to the Timex Developer site[^] to get more information about creating applications for this product. Oh, by the way....this should retail around $90, but you can priobably get it at Wal-Mart or other discounters for about $65-70 US. Regards, Brigg Thorp Software Engineer Timex Corporation

Old hat, I had mine for over six months, still it certain bits floppy and CD's, you can now get a 1Gb keydisc. To iterate is human, to recurse is devine.

I remember seeing an ad for a watch that had altimiter, barometer, compass, heart rate monitor, and cycle computer. I can't for the life of me find this. Does Timex have something similar? cheers, Chris Maunder

We don't have all of that in one product. We do have our GPS based speed and distance watch that gives you speed, distance, and pace. Also, we have our Helix WRKS watch that has an altimeter, barometer, thermometer, and compass. Then we have a whole line of digital heart rate monitors. If you want a watch with all this stuff, it would probably be the size of a Pocket PC on your wrist. ;-) Brigg Thorp Software Engineer Timex Corporation

While you're at it Chris, you should buy a gift for yourself! Check this out... http://www.evolution.com/product/consumer/ For $500 (ouch!) you can convert your laptop to a robot. You can code it to do important tasks such as fetchBeer() and pesterSmallAnimals()! :-D Also, check out their ER2 robot in the OEM section.

That looks very much like the one I had, but I thought the one I saw also had something for skiers/snowboards (not just the altitude thing - something else - I wish I could find it!) If that one has a compass then I'm saving my pennies (or selling a kidney) and getting one. I lost my Suunto and feel lost without it. Ah - found it! Suunto S6 or the Suunto X6 HR. Hmm - now if only I could find a watch with haeart-rate, cycle computer, barometer, compass, inclinometer, dual time, PC interface, backlight, long battery life and maybe a GPS thrown in ;) cheers, Chris Maunder
