How is it about licences? My purchaser is trying to convince me, we need also licences for each product included in MSDN. Well, in his words we need to buy VS7 too. I think when I buy MSDN I get the 1 license for each product included in MSDN. Am I right? In our company is MSDN used by 3 developers. Do I need 3 licences for them?

Last time I checked, MSDN was * licensed per developer seat * the included products were licensed for development tasks i.e. you could use the W2K on your dev box, but not as a "real" server. This is a bit fuzzy, but ok.

What exactly does it mean “not as a real” server? Are there some limitations in functionality?

You can use the products in MSDN for development purposes, you cannot use them in production.

You get a per developer license for everything except for MSDN Library. MSDN Library may be used by multiple developers. The licenses are for development, testing, and demonstration only; they cannot be used for production or general uses (playing games on Windows). Microsoft Office is an exception to the development, test, and demo rule. If you have a MSDN Univ license, you don't need an additional Visual Studio license as you're probably using the MSDN version for development. Each license allows you to install the software on up to ten machines, but only for one developer.
