But you live in the States. Unless you are implying you wanted us to still be under British rule? :~

You can infer it that way, yes. As a first gen American, I am sensitive to others who move here and continue to think their previous country's the greatest in the world. Just don't get why they'd want to live here in that case.

Let the "Real American" worry about that. But get the day off from work due to those who sacrifice their life.

If for no other reason, any country that dresses their soldiers in bright red for their battle uniforms is definitely worth keeping an arms-length (and ocean width) away. And the economic policies may have played a part in that Brexit, too.

Interesting angle on it. The US war of independence was the English Civil War part II IMO. At least if you view it in its idealised form. If you view it somewhat more realistically is just a land grab.

Nish, my grandmother emigrated from Scotland as a child to Canada, I emigrated from Canada to the USA as an adult. I tell the kids I work with (grade 1 to grade 6): if you live in this country, respect the American flag. Even if I'm not a citizen, this country is where I call home.

As long as you don't live in Chicago or a few other high crime areas, the chances that you will be murdered by a stranger are pretty low.

I wholeheartedly agree. It's like they can't wait to leave their home country because of it's many pitfalls and shortcomings, but when they get settled in the states, they still want to continue with their old way of life. What they don't seem to understand is if they continue down that road, and others join, the US will end up just like the country they left! It's one thing to keep your heritage, but at some point you need to leave your "baggage" at the door.

Not always true. For many it's about personal safety.

Are you kidding? I have lived in five countries, England, Sweden, Germany, France and the US and in all but one of them I have felt fairly safe on a day to day basis... all of them except the US, actually. There seems to be a background threat of violence more often in the US than any of the other places I have lived (or visited, for that matter... although I don't plan on going back to Tunisia any time soon!) There are many areas I have been told, "don't go there after dark" and I see the police going around in pairs of cars, not just one policeman (with no gun) on foot like it used to be in England.

                                          - I would love to change the world, but they won’t give me the source code.
