Died (supposedly from cancer) in a Chinese prison.

    Quote:

"The greatness of non-violent resistance is that even as man is faced with forceful tyranny and the resulting suffering, the victim responds to hate with love, to prejudice with tolerance, to arrogance with humility, to humiliation with dignity, and to violence with reason."

Liu's words quoted at the award ceremony for the Nobel Prize: Liu was not permitted to attend. [^] :rose:

«Differences between Big-Endians, who broke eggs at the larger end, and Little-Endians gave rise to six rebellions: one Emperor lost his life, another his crown. The Lilliputian religion says an egg should be broken on the convenient end, which is now interpreted by the Lilliputians as the smaller end. Big-Endians gained favor in Blefuscu.» J. Swift, 'Gulliver's Travels,' 1726CE

But they still end up dead victims. My dad once told me that "The world is a sh|t sandwich, and every day you gotta take a bite." Despite your desire to love, tolerate, show humility or try to be reasonable, the plain fact is that a lot of people in this world simply don't give a damn. No amount of platitudes is gonna change their minds. That's why you have to f*ckin grow a pair, and be ready to and defend what's right, and visit violence on those who would disturb the world's calm. Hiding behind rainbows, flowers, and bibles NEVER works. The answer to the question, "Can't we all just get along?" - "No".

I wonder if one way to put the fire out is to recognize that when you are burning, I am burning, and the world is burning.

Sometimes I sense a strange ... yet, paradoxically familiar ... resonance between the psychic posture of "dog eat dog" and the saint's embodiment of the optimistic assertion that there are "better angels" in our nature. It's a feeling that these antipodal extremes are somehow whispering to each other across impermeable ontological boundaries ... that I can almost hear ... that. But, I so often mistake my confusion for insight :wtf: cheers, Bill

Actually, love is the only thing that will work.

There are two kinds of people in the world: those who can extrapolate from incomplete data. There are only 10 types of people in the world, those who understand binary and those who don't.

Has hugging a terrorist ever worked in your experience? (I suppose if you're quick enough to steal his bomb's trigger without him noticing)

I didn't say love will work every time, but it is the only thing that will have lasting impact for good.
