There are some smart peeps on here, so any L.A. vets have tips to shortening commute time? I live in the valley and considering a job in Culver City. So I don't spend all day on the road, sucking the life out of me, I figure the best way to avoid traffic is to find a way to start my day besides the proverbial 9AM. As in, if I'm gonna work out, get in close proximity to the job for around 7AM, workout then go to work to avoid the blunt of it. Any tips I'm missing?

I lived in LA for 22 years and my brother lives 1 hour outside L.A. travel as early as possible and as late as possible, but not during the business hours. My honest thought would be is to try to get a 75-100% remote/telecommute job, if you can. There is no tip or trick of dealing with LA traffic, other than get on the road when most people are not on it...or move the f**k out of L.A., like I did (never looked back). :-D

Wherever you go, it'll take you around an hour each way (give or take) in heavy traffic. You have to fight the 101 and the 405. As I recall, you're in the east valley so 101 west, 405 south. No way around it from the Valley to Culver City. I used to work in Century City and left around 615 to get there for 7am. You can try some of the canyon roads - Benedict Canyon is about the best to get over the hill. Don't go Laurel Canyon! The other route is Sepulveda - if you get lucky the 405 is packed and that is empty and then you can use surface streets to get to Culver City; once you cross Santa Monica it gets easier. My advice: if you live in the valley, work in the valley. :-)

Good luck with that. If/when the crazies on both sides go from screaming at each other to actually starting the civil war they're trying to egg each other into firing the first shot of; someone's going to start blowing up all the big water pipelines/aqueducts leading into the big coastal cities. Dehydration doesn't care about party lines.

People say the sign of the devil is the number 666. They're wrong. His sign is a blue and red interstate shield with 405 on it. (used to drive the 405 from North Orange County to Irvine every day)
I feel you pain. My friend used to drive from Marina del Rey to Irvine every day - 2 hours each way. But, yes, the 405 is bloody awful.
