To be honest and not quite so tongue in cheek, I think the politicians are trying to cover for the fact that US intelligence services undoubtedly did fail. But I think you could argue that the information coordination has gotten better, and the threats are obviously taken a lot more seriously. Doug Goulden wrote: Are you suprised? That this administration wants to hide it? No. That an American administration wants to hide it? Yes. Doug Goulden wrote: Yeah the Democrats need something to try to help their election ..... From the article: Graham’s stand may not be terribly surprising, given that the Florida Democrat is running for president and is seeking to use the issue himself politically. But he has found a strong ally in House Intelligence Committee Chairman Goss, a staunch Republican (and former CIA officer) who in the past has consistently defended the administration’s handling of 9-11 issues and is considered especially close to Cheney. “I find this process horrendously frustrating,” Goss said in an interview. He was particularly piqued that the administration was refusing to declassify material that top intelligence officials had already testified about. “Senior intelligence officials said things in public hearings that they [administration officials] don’t want us to put in the report,” said Goss. “That’s not something I can rationally accept without further public explanation.”

GWB's administration refuses to release 9/11 report. Congress is not amused. Citizens wonder "WTF" ? http://www.msnbc.com/news/907379.asp?0cv=KA01[^] (poster expects to be called various names for daring to look away from the bright shining light) -c

I'll follow whatever honorable revolution against the government you want to lead - but I don't find interpreting business as usual politics as something invented by GWB to be an especially heroic position to take. If that's the best you've got, I'd say Bush is doing ok.

Doesn't surprise me a bit. Isn't there stuff about the Kennedy assasination that is still top secret? ...and that was one death! Mike Mullikin

This administration is widely regarded - from both sides of the aisle - as being overly secretive. The highlights in the media have been Cheney's energy task force and, to a lesser extent, their refusal to release Reagan's papers. Those of us with cynical natures assume the latter is to protect George H. W. "Hey, I was out of the loop" Bush, among others.
