Has anyone else noticed that Windows Explorer in XP Pro [EDIT]SP1[/EDIT] will "forget" its screen position and size settings? It has happened to other people I work with, so it's not isolated to my machine. Anyone know of a fix for it? I'm glad MS is focusing on security, but explorer seems to get worse and worse with each release. X|

This won't help you at all, but just to point it out. (I am using SP1 now if that matters, and wasn't before)

If you log off or shut down if specific folders are active (I think it's "My Documents"), Explorer appears to "remember" it's position and size. However, a few other times it has remembered when I had other folders active.

Same thing happened to me - I reinstalled XP and everything worked fine for about a month (maybe a little longer). Then everything went kaplooey again.

In India, when someone says "mad cow", you know it's actually a bull charging at him. -- Rohit SinhaFor me, Explorer remembers its position, but if I have some folders/explorer windows open on shutdown, they never appear again on startup. And explorer is forever taking away the names of the folders and drives, so that I have lots of folders all named "". It also navigates to "C:\windows\desktop\desktop" and then complains that "c:\windows\desktop\desktop\desktop" doesn't exist (and of course it doesn't). It does the latter two things whenever one of the explorer windows calls a refresh (i.e. when the contents of a folder changes). I have a Win98 PC, so this shows that explorer isn't getting worse - it's always been bad. (Some consolation!)

The really annoying part about this is that the appears to be no pattern whatsoever.
