I just noticed recently that when a box of Kleenex is near empty, the color of tissue changes to peach to remind users that it is time to buy a new box. What a smart idea. Do you know any other examples like this?

When the bottle of ketchup is almost empty, it makes a 'squirty' sound with a lot of air.

How do you tell when a box of peach colored Kleenex is empty? (I don't use Kleenex.  I carry a handkerchief. #oldschool). /ravi

Cash register tapes have been doing that for many years. But you're right, it seems that more things could benefit from that concept. My vacuum cord has a yellow sticker and then a red sticker to indicate the end of it. It is retractable so it is there to warn you to not pull too hard.

Little things like these may not get noticed. But they do reflect manufacturers work hard on their products.

Roll-your-own cigarette rolling paper boxes contain a coloured paper when there are only 10 left (of typically 50 or 100). Another example: Patent US5365874 - End of dental floss tape indicator - Google Patents[^].

Yes, but I can't tell you in every detail what the owner of my local bar mixes into the beer to remind me that I should have another one. And now you have reminded me to go and buy a fresh two pound roll of filament for the 3D printer after work.

My car has a flat tyre warning. I saw it one day and drove in to work wondering what the hell that light meant. When I got in to work I read the manual, then I looked at the tyre and realised the significance of the light. These sorts of things are only useful if you know what they mean. No I am not going to read the whole of my car manual - I simply don't have the time.
