I found an email open tracker in the CP newsletter containing an article about the widespread use and dangers of email trackers. The Article: How Email Open Tracking Quietly Took Over the Web[^] The Tracker Emebeded in my Email:

Does CP use a mailing service for their newsletters? I can't think of any other reason for a tracker to be in my morning newsletter.

For my first line of defense, I use a HOSTS file that lists advert and malware sites I like to avoid. I will be adding this site to the list immediately. Originally, the HOSTS file with windows is about 128 bytes or so. Mine is now 620KB. Thanks for the warning. :)

That's why you should configure your mail client to display emails in plain-text not HTML.
I could but there are certain image based adverts that I want to see such as Newegg daily deals...and I am too lazy to try and find the setting for my web based email providers such as Yahoo mail and Gmail.

I use Ghostery in both Chrome and Firefox. It blocks most, if not all, trackers on the web pages I visit. As for Internet Explorer, I just don't use it for anything beyond making sure the current web projects load correctly on it.

IIRC developermedia is a CP owned domain. Not sure if they use it for anything beyond their in house advertising dept.

For all my ad-blocking needs, I use [Pi-hole](https://pi-hole.net/), running on a Linux VM that otherwise wouldn't be doing anything at all anyway. Bonus - it's network-wide and will filter ads equally for *all* devices.
