Microsoft Blocking Printing

Is printing that much of a security risk that users must, by default, not be allowed to print? I don't want to click extra buttons, I just want to print!!:thumbsdown:

There is no way to design a secure method that allows the end user to print right away? I don't believe this. So the rest of our lives, we will always need to be unable to print a document right away? We must click an extra button? :thumbsdown::thumbsdown:

I battled this very thing trying to use rdlc reports in an Azure webapp. Everything works until you actually try to print/export! :confused: (due to a security issue afaik) I gave up an went with another approach. It's all good now! :)

Well ... do you remember faxes? You'd get to work in the morning, and wade through the half a fax roll of spam that had arrived overnight. And that was when the fax sender had to pay for it. If the default for printing was "open" then there'd be a load of wasted paper, ink, and toner; and people would be swearing at MS for allowing it...

that thermal paper wasn't cheap either, so the receiver paid too... overnight the roll would too often run out (spammers using cheaper night time call rates) and the one fax you were waiting for [from the other side of the world] was lost - so you'd also pay to send a fax back to the client (as it's now their night time) asking them to re-send their fax...

Around places where CSRs have direct access to very sensitive customer information, yes we're glad it's disabled by default.

Forgot to mention that you could set the fax machine up to resend until it actually got a fax response from the other end. But if you put the wrong telephone number in, say one to a residence (in the middle of the night), not really your problem.
