...has inexplicably and suddenly become my new browser of choice. Just like that. Sorry Chrome. It was good while it lasted. Except for the bits where you used up all my RAM and then kept crashing.

I thought that's what people were complaining about regarding the new FF.

Chrome loved to OOM my 24GB system. Yes, it took up all 24GB in about 10 minutes after launching it.

What do you get when you cross a joke with a rhetorical question? The metaphorical solid rear-end expulsions have impacted the metaphorical motorized bladed rotating air movement mechanism. Do questions with multiple question marks annoy you???

For about a month now, Chrome has been crashing on me with "Aw. snap" screens on random pages at will. I have not used FF in over 2 year's now as a personal browser. Might be taking a look now. :sigh:

Have you tried a decent browser? Something that is safe, regardless of the ads served? Something operated by keyboard-shortcuts, instead of a mouse? Lynx remains the ultimate; IIRC, you already aknowledged that CP registers these browsers. How about you giving us some insight on the browsers used, as well as average screen-resolutions?

Very interesting on two accounts: 1) I've recently tried the new FireFox and thought it was quite good too. I was able to post articles to CP using it with no addt'l challenges.

                        1. I keep thinking this is related to PWAs (Progressive Web Apps) and Service Workers. I've been really nervous about them. Sometimes I go to a valid site and suddenly my CPU just starts going crazy. PWA / Service Workers are so new I was trying to figure out how to determine if someone is mining bitcoins on my machine. I found this for Chrome: chrome://serviceworker-internals/ it will display all the service workers and their current state. Now we need that for firefox. (hint, anyone?, anyone?)

Didn't matter. Even if there was only one tab, Chrome would OOM. I also hate how the tabs get smaller and smaller instead of scrolling like every other browser.

I really like Opera but the inevitable problem is that so many sites only support the "big 3" and therein lies the problem. Microsoft have completely lost the plot with the IE/Edge development path. Chrome used to be great but now just eats memory. Firefox, which also used to be great, is now just bloatware. But because they established the big market shares back in the days when they were better, they're the ones that get supported - it's a Catch 22. A quick glance at [browser market share stats](https://www.netmarketshare.com/browser-market-share.aspx?options={"filter"%3A{"%24and"%3A[{"deviceType"%3A{"%24in"%3A["Desktop%2Flaptop"]}}]}%2C"dateLabel"%3A"Trend"%2C"attributes"%3A"share"%2C"group"%3A"browser"%2C"sort"%3A{"share"%3A-1}%2C"id"%3A"browsersDesktop"%2C"dateInterval"%3A"Monthly"%2C"dateStart"%3A"2016-12"%2C"dateEnd"%3A"2017-11"%2C"segments"%3A"-1000"}) shows how valuable what I would call "legacy popularity" is. It's a similar situation to Android - Android used to be cool, now it gets progressively worse due to the pointless tinkering that comes with every "upgrade" but because it was good for long enough for it to have become the only phone/tab OS in town, it's difficult to see how it will ever get dislodged.

98.4% of statistics are made up on the spot.

...has inexplicably and suddenly become my new browser of choice. Just like that. Sorry Chrome. It was good while it lasted. Except for the bits where you used up all my RAM and then kept crashing.

                                        cheers Chris Maunder

*khm* (granted it was running for a few days, but seeing this more and more often after upgrading to FF57)
