I thought the tradition is to take them down on the 6th? As for tidying away Christmas tree lights and "strings" of tinsel - indeed, any cable/rope/string etc - it makes no difference how carefully it is wrapped and put away. There is Universal Law which states that: A rope (cable, etc) left to itself will tie itself in untangle-able knots. And that's a fact.

Nope, all you have to do is establish your dominance over the cable/rope/string etc., and it will remain as you put it provided it is undisturbed (by your SO, cat, whatever). Once a less dominant person touches it, it will revert to the "Big Ball 'o Knots" within nanoseconds. My cables remain tidy, my strings in neat balls. Cable ties can help here. Strangely, Chrome's spelling suggester thinks that should be "my strings in meatballs."

I told her it's so "it doesn't disturb her valuable day off" (which will involve remaining in pyjamas till noon, shouting at the TV, and snoring, probably) but it's really because we are different people. I will take them down carefully, rolling strings of beads, card holders, sparkly stuff, lights, etc. around cardboard tubes before putting them in boxes. She will pull them down as quickly as possible and throw them in a box. My way, I get an easy life next December because I can just unroll stuff and up it goes. Her way, it will be one huge knot which will have acquired a life of it's own and actively resist unravelling. So ... which type are you? "Plan ahead" or "Rush through"? I'm plan ahead and my wife is rush through. Which usually means that when I have a plan it's already rushed through. Which in turn means I'm sitting in an "orderly" house where noone can find anything, and I'm just bugger all about everything.

Kitchen roll tubes: make a cut about 2 ~ 5 cm long at one end, and use it to hold one end of the stringy stuff. Wind it on, then Sellotape the other end in place. :thumbsup:

Plan ahead, always. Surprisingly enough, my wife is the same way. :thumbsup: Christmas stuff usually gets taken down within the first 2 weeks of January. Christmas tree pickup (special garbage collection) is the entire month of January.

I jst took the whole (small and artificial) christmas tree and stuffed it into its box until next year. Lights, ornaments and 3D printed Death Star tip still on it.

First point - I plan ahead by nature - it is, to put it mildly, very under-appreciated by nearly everyone (except my IT Director). For example, what's wrong with allowing more than twenty minutes for a twenty minute trip? If I had such decorations, I'd think ahead when the time came to install them, planning fully for the reversion to their stored state . . . and just leave them in their boxes. But - and how many of you are victims of this: If Mrs. Wife wants something put away and I don't do it until the time is right, she may well do it for me. Then, when I ask her where it is, she will tell me with absolute certainty, the wrong place at least a few times. By accident or design? I don't have the b@lls to ask.
