I was once doing some skiing in Quebec, driving around a rental car from Boston, and stayed in Montreal for a few days, and my car got ticketed; I never paid it. :laugh: I was doing some skiing in the Alps and made a side trip to Berlin and got a ticket there as well, also with a rental car, that I didn't pay. I had a rental car in Amsterdam that got ticketed, but unfortunately it got booted as well - SO I PAID THE DAMN TICKET! :mad::mad: I got a ticket in my own car (registered in Louisiana) in Dallas when I just passing through and was visiting the JFK assassination museum; it did not have the correct license plate number (the plate was a special university plate whose plate number was some extra characters than were on the plate) and the car description was off in any case; of course, I did not pay. And (with that same university plate, but on a different car) I got a ticket in New Orleans that I would have had to pay to continue my registration, but "fortunately" that car got flooded in Hurricane Katrina, so I didn't pay that either. ;P (I have not had any problems registering that plate with my present car that I have had since Katrina.) Finally, I once got a ticket during my college years in that college town, with the amount being $10; as my hearing happened to be on a free day during the final exam period, I was able to go to court and fight it, fully expecting the cop to not show up (I remember the prosecutor being in utter disbelief that I wanted my trial ;P) - unfortunately, the cop showed up :wtf: , so I had to pay it! :laugh: I have often wondered if the ticket authority could have any leverage with the rental car company, with the company having leverage with the renter to pay a ticket. As I have been driving a stick for quite some time, I have not rented in car in North America since then (and I have figured out how to get around virtually anywhere in Europe using some sort of public transportation, so I haven't rented a car there either.

I think you're lucky. Here the rentals companies have your credit card details and they will charge it for fuel topup etc if it's not fill. Part of the contract is that they will also charge you for any unpaid tickets or road tolls you rake up. Maybe you paid for it as part of the bill without realising it?

I think you're lucky. Here the rentals companies have your credit card details and they will charge it for fuel topup etc if it's not fill. Part of the contract is that they will also charge you for any unpaid tickets or road tolls you rake up. Maybe you paid for it as part of the bill without realising it?

Be careful doing that abroad. Some countries tie their traffic ticket system in with border control. You could find yourself denied permission to leave and sent back to wherever the incident happened to pay in person. a PITA if you were planning to drive across the border, a likely missed flight and new air ticket at a higher cost than the traffic one if by plane. :doh:

Did some software for a car rental, hired a car during that period, got done in a speed trap (saw the flash) going a little bit too fast (180 in a 120k zone). Changed the rental details to a non existent foreigner. Never saw the ticket.
