We have a Valentine's party with my daughter's homeschool group in an hour and another party tomorrow night at our church. My daughter is giving her classmates bars of homemade soap in heart shapes.

Yeah, that happened last year at Christmas. My wife gave the children gingerbread soap, shaped like gingerbread men. The children were told it was soap; the parents didn't ask, just took a bite.

The cards are funny but this "Valentine" seems to be a US thing. Hasn't really got a foothold in the countries West of Russia and East of UK.

In Italy it's widely celebrated - just not with cards but with gifts and days out. In Japan AFAIK the traditional gift is chocolate.
