Just thought I would take you seriously for a moment. :) I hired some Rossignol GS race skis last year, they were quite staggering at ripping long carved turns. So precise on the edge, millimetre steering. The snow got pretty slushy mid week and they were unusable at low speed in that gloop, so switched to some Head Shapes. Nice too, but not as good at speed as the SG skis. Best ski I ever used was a Head Prestige, second time I went last year. They were extraordinary carvers at all speeds. You could actually feel the inside of your boot dragging in the snow such was the angle you could bank them to, with your bum a foot off the snow. Definitely want to get some again this year! :)

I haven't been skiing in over 40 years.... in my day we had little more than planks of wood strapped to our boots. I loved it though - probably my favourite sport. I was living in Rome at the time, and the school used to charter a bus every (winter) weekend to take us up into the hills - used to get at up 5am for it... happy days.

Modern equipment has made it a lot more fun, and so dynamic. It is a pure joy to ski, to be up in the mountains, in the sun, deep blue sky, ripping up a piste in perfect carves. In fact it is the one thing that I get fit for. Hence the weight loss campaign this year. Got to shed 22 kgs before end of march. Not carrying the equivalent of a bag of cement around with you is bound to improve your skiing! :)

He does make it look easy. I can imagine trying that and collapsing after 30 seconds, my legs shattered, out of breath, or dead. He ran over one guys skis, but that's what you get for standing around in a place where only experts should go! Its the way he flies into what appears to be a dead end, and just misses the rocks in the chicane that gets me, plus the sheer height he jumps to. How do you land from 25 ft and NOT break something?

Very :cool:, although I gotta question the guy's sanity. I sent the link to my boss, who's currently on vacation skiing in Colorado. Question for the skiers in the crowd: Several times when he was passing people, it seemed awfully close. In cycling the rule is the person overtaking is responsible for ensuring safety. Is there something equivalent in skiing? Or was this a 'set piece' and the bystanders were all in on the action?

delete this;The uphill skier has the same responsibility as the overtaker. Don't go so close to a downhill skier that if they do something unexpected you could hit them. I thought that the bit at the opening where he goes through the group standing on the hill was extremely dickish!

delete this;Europe has those rules, but they are ignored, especially in France and Italy. Christ, in Italy they ski flat out all the time. They are all nuts. We dont have Ski Patrol here to enforce laws, its just up to the individual.
