Pointless gesture. For all you know, the gun was already inoperable, meaning he couldn't sell it if he wanted to. Inherited last year when my dad passed way: - A Mk V Webley revolver (circa 1957) that had the bore smoothed out and the barrel threaded to accept a choke, so it could be used as a varmint gun. I haven't looked into it yet, but I think it takes a 410 shotgun shell. The modifications have rendered it essentially unsellable, so I'm gonna wait for a police gun buy-back event and maybe turn it in for cash because cutting up a gun on youtube is nothing more than sensationalist gun-grabber appeasement. - A U.S. Revolver Company top-break .22LR revolver (circa 1919) that is simply a piece of crap, and I'm afraid to fire it. the crappy nickel plating is decaying, and the trigger pull is way to heavy to make it accurate in any sense of the term. As far as I'm concerned, it's also a candidate for a buy-back program because it has no collectible value at all. - Taurus 82B4 .38 special revolver that I inherited from my father-in-law. Taurus isn't exactly known for making a quality firearm, plus, it's the only gun I have that uses .38 special ammo, so I'll probably sell it (it's probably worth $200 or so). - Winchester Model 94 .30-30 lever action (circa 1956) that's never been fired or even had a round chambered in it. My dad bought this the year I was born, and when I took possession of it, it came with a leather rifle case and two 10-round boxes of ammo, as well as the receipt showing he paid $89 for it at Sears. I'm in the process of changing the sights (globe site on the front and a Marbles tang sight in the back, and plan to shoot the hell out of it (but not with the original ammo, because it's over 60 years old). Guns I've bought (and still have): - An AR-15 that I built myself from a pile of parts, chambered in 5.56, and with a full set of optics. - Springfield 1911 (GI model) pistol in .45ACP that I sent to Springfield's custom shop to improve operation and accuracy - RIA 1911 which I bought used and had to replace everything but the frame and slide (and yeah, I did the work instead of taking it to a gunsmith). It's more accurate than my Springfield. - Henry H001T .22 lever action rifle that I used for competitive shooting - Mossberg 20-guage pump-action shotgun I would like to note that NONE of the guns listed above are responsible for any shootings, mass or otherwise. I see myself as a reasonable American, and white on top of that.

When I leave the house, I always have a pistol in the car - even when I go to car shows. The pistol is in a holster, and is in contition-1 status (cocked and locked, with one in the pipe, and the thumb safety is on) unless I'm cleaning it. I like 1911's because I feel they're safer than Glocks (Glocks don't have a thumb safety, and aren't heavy enough to beat your opponent to death if you run out of ammo). I ain't Rambo, and don't pretend to be, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

They're only "murder weapons" when someone uses them for that purpose, like arrows, knives, bats, rope, cars, plastic bags, stairs, what have you. The Amendments were crafted by men who recognized the natural right to self defense and freedom from oppression.

I get it, it's probably a very cool hobby. Nobody doubts that you in particular are a reasonable and safe gun owner. But it's not about you it's about statistics. It's about the crazy one in a million and when you have such lax laws it's just a matter of time until the next massacre. That is why you have speed limits per example, most people are reasonable responsible drivers who would slow down in a school area, but there is this one in a thousand, who would speed up and kill someone. You are certainly smart enough to realize that.

Laws and restrictions only serve to infringe on the 2nd Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens, and do NOTHING to effectively keep guns out of the hands of people bent on visiting evil on the world.

Because everybody is a law abiding citizen until he isn't and you are wrong that it will do nothing to keep guns from potential criminals. Less assault rifles will certainly mean less danger. Simple statistic.

Funny you should ask. :) Ruger makes a semi-automatic rifle (like an AR-15) is chambered in the same caliber as an AR15 (.223/5.56), and that accepts the same magazine as an AR-15, yet is not considered an "assault rifle". Why? Because it's sold with a standard wooden stock (like most hunting rifles).

I've always viewed the bump-stock as a gimmick that sacrifices accuracy in the name of simulated automatic fire, and not worth my time. Banning accessories is pointless, is a token gesture at best, and is not related to the Florida school shooting. Besides that, Trump cannot ban bump-stocks. That is a legislative act, and he is in the executive branch.
