I'll be coming to London for a week May 11th. Will be doing a lot of the touristy stuff but any recommendations on what else to do. Touristy meaning museums, galleries and fish and chips.

You may want to consider hopping on a train for a quick journey(45 minutes from Liverpool street) north to Cambridge to see the colleges, Kings Chapel and evensong is well worth the visit, as well as a punt on the Cam.

Thanks, we've got the "London Pass" which I've been told is a hop on and off transit that seems like it would be real handy. My girl friend has been there a couple of times so I'm letting her do most of the planning but there are a few things I want to see also.

Yup, the London Pass is quite good, It might be related to a Travel thing I had in New York (same font, same layout for the website) I do know the company that installed the 'headphone guide' and I worked for the company that did there video screens...Go see a film in Leicester Square (also note the ammount of Police and Military Police at kicking out time!)

I went years ago for 2 weeks. The tower of London was fun, north east side of the tower bridge. Big Ben walk and palace, that's a one day thing. London at night walk, Picadilly area. Hang out in a pub, food everywhere. The tube maps are way off scale. One night we drank too long past midnight in Picadilly, thought we could walk to Lancaster Gate and didn't realize how far it was, we stopped and asked a Bobby how far and he said you boys look in good shape, another 2 hours. I met some girls there and went to their house for dinner in Surry Docks. Got to see how most of London lives and how tight money was there. Met some other girls that tried to scam me. That happened every night. If I did it again, I'd rent a car and go to the BMW factory, look at the English channel. Ride the train to Paris for a day. Do some British rail traveling north and east or west, just roll the dice on direction.
If it ain't broke don't fix it

If you have time, take a boat tour to Greenwich. There is the prime meridian at the Observatory and the Cutty Sark near the river.
I'd rather be phishing!

Take a walk on the South Bank from Westminster Bridge to Borough Market and have lunch there, especially the grilled raclette sandwiches. Buckingham Palace, Piccadilly, Trafalgar Square, the usual places. Use the tube, I think you can get a daily or weekly travel card. Buses are Ok but slow and black cabs are crazy expensive though they know London every which way. Book a show in one of the theatres in the west end - plenty of places to get half price tickets. Go for afternoon tea at a good hotel or even the Ritz. Science and Natural History Museums are a must. Enjoy!

for a week
Beyond the standard touristy things your are not going to have time with a week! London is full of interesting shit and if you do get bored with museums rent a car outside the M25 and go for a drive.

The observatory has (or had two years ago) a very good exhibition on time and the attempts to measure time at sea (required for calculating longitude). It's well worth a visit!
Ad astra - both ways!
