Strategy folks, everything is about strategy! here is how the master of the art of the dill conducts negotiations: - First he declares trade war on China - China responds - He declares the trade war is lost - Blames Obama on the loss of the trade war. This is until now. According to his track record the next step is declaring bankruptcy. That is at least how he proceeded as a business man. [Donald J. Trump on Twitter: "We are not in a trade war with China, that war was lost many years ago by the foolish, or incompetent, people who represented the U.S. Now we have a Trade Deficit of $500 Billion a year, with Intellectual Property Theft of another $300 Billion. We cannot let this continue!"](https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/981492087328792577)

Well, last time he went bankrupt his daddy bailed him out. Maybe he thinks someone will do that when he finishes off bankrupting the USA (hey - use your head - real estate will be real cheap - he'll make a killing!).

Your first point "First he declares trade war on China" is not true, and so the rest is bollocks.

Well, come on - not literally, but he has de facto. It was he who started slapping trade tariffs on China, amongst others. These are called Trade Wars, for good or bad, right or wrong.

Ironically China was the biggest buyer of US debt. Until now. I'm pretty sure suspending the purchase of US treasuries is one of the weapons they will use. If they started to dump some of their holdings of US debt, the trade war is about to begin. caveat: Since they're the biggest holder of debt, the value of their debt is dependent upon the value of the US dollar. If the dollar tanks they lose big-time. Once they bought enough of our debt they are now essentially addicted. Withdrawal will be a slow process if they wish to preserve their capital - longer term than the trade war. They've their eyes on stealing our Intellectual Property. That's the long-term target for us and them. Also, take for example, soybeans. They buy from us in huge amounts because of price. If they buy elsewhere to avoid their own tariffs then they'll pay more - and the sellers, taking the tariff into account, can crank up their prices a little more. All of these things have multi-order effects. Victims of the trade war: consumers and, well, Hump-voters who thought he'd fix their world.

You also said it made the rest of the OP bollocks - but it doesn't, for the reason I stated: that whether or not he literally declared such a war, his actions were a de facto declaration of such.

Cool! So every time Canaduh has imposed a tax on imports over the years it was declaring a trade war? Sweet! Or does it only count when Trump does it?

[Trump: Trade wars are good - YouTube](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gkIkCqhvsu4) What is this then? A joke? Like the rest of his tenure? You see the idiot was a minor real estate developer. As such he had some success bullying investors, tenants, subcontractors in order to gain some advantages. When you try the same tactics on a scale as EU, China, Canada, those local tycoon bully tactics don't work. He always opens with some outrageous threats and then scales back when the other parties push back. This is why none of his initiatives have worked so far. BUT the bad blood he raised remains. This America doesn't have any allies anymore.

It will hurt everybody. Economists here say that Canada will take collateral damage from this trade war.

Oh please. I don't hate him, I think he is an idiot and a liar and thinks he will get his way by bullying. That may work in the business world, but that is not how you run a country. Remember when he was bragging about the stock market going up (a trend started under Obama)? Now with announcements of ridiculous import taxes, Dow Jones is going down. Did he take responsibility? No, because he is a coward.

Far as I can recall every President and even some congress people claim that they are responsible for the stock market and/or economy going up. Can't recall a single one claiming responsibility for it going down.

Certainly true. But in this case, Trump is actually the one to blame for the stock market dip.
