So, I got an invite from someone to check out remote.com - looks like another job board of sorts. Just curious if anyone has earned anything there? I'm always poking around for new and lucrative things to do, but my queue is so full right now, I think I'm psychotic....

Isn't this the new name for RentACoder? We used to have a laugh at the requests on there. Things like: "Wanted: New operating system. Must have unique brand but be able to play all Windows applications. Budget: $30"

      This space for rent

Similar to [Remote Jobs: Design, Programming, Rails, Executive, Marketing, Copywriting, and more.](https://weworkremotely.com/) there's not a single C# posting - these sites tend to be Ruby / PHP / etc. The few jobs I applied for on weworkremotely I never got a reply from, not even a "thanks but no thanks. So, worthless IMO.

Did you accidentally quote more than $11.25/hour, Marc? That may explain the lack of responses. :-D

That must be it. I quoted infinity, as you can't pay me enough to code in Ruby. ;)

And here's my sign :) Thought I'd ask. I had to provide all sorts of details before I could see any ideas on money. I'll keep working within my contacts. Thanks for the laughs

Are there any legitimate sites for programmers wanting side projects?

$200 for an e-commerce system, but I managed to bump them up to $300. Even got them to add a few lines to the original spec of; "E-commerce system like Amazon, must be #1 for google search".

There are legitimate sites (freelancer.com), the problem is the clients. "All code must be on our servers, project must be finished before payment is made, you must be an absolute sucker".

What he said. There is actually a need in the market place. The problem is finding decent people to do the work (if they are decent, they tend to be very busy) for people who have no idea how to find them. I'll give you an example... in the days when there were newsgroups, and I know they still live, I would follow CE related development issues... Someone worked for a company who was managing a convention or something. They had numerous ticket scanners (running CE) that could read a barcode. They wanted an app that would collect scanned tickets on each device, save the results to a file. At the end of a convention, they would collect the devices, remove the files and pull them all into a spreadsheet. So this guy posted a query if anyone was out there that could do something like that... yeah, I can and did do that. But think about the environment... this guy had no clue who I was. I had no clue who he was. Some risk, but after some phone calls and emails, he had his code, I had my money, all were happy. I think if you really want to do freelance work - small jobs I'm thinking of - it's not going to happen on these websites. You need to get out there in local groups and network. I hate saying that word. Network. Call it street cred. It's priceless. Code Project is a good start.
