..sleeping at work? :) Particularly in the afternoon , after lunch, and when you just got above 35 years old. I play a couple of games on my phone for few minutes, drink a glass of water & get back.

Years ago, when I was only 50, I bought a high back chair to the office so I can lay back and have a snooze after lunch. I like my power nap although the young whipper snappers are starting to call it my nanna nap.

I take a nap at the desk absolutely ignoring what other might think or say. Days when I come by car, I go to car and sleep. Generally it takes 10-15 minutes of nap to get active again. There is anyways no point in me being sleepy and trying to be awake as I will anyways not be able to accomplish anything. I find it wrong to make body work when it is already signalling it needs rest to recover.

I have a room where I go to sleep when I need too. It's out of the way and so far I have not been noticed.

Best advice I've heard for that moment you boss catches you napping is to raise your head and say "Amen"

I sleep for 8-10 minutes. That's usually enough to cure the zombiefication. If I sleep 20, when I wake it is disappointing to find that I am at work. Before my thyroid issue got fixed I would get profoundly tired mid-day. Once, I fell asleep at the keyboard and awoke to find my finger on r. I had pages of the letter r in my documentation.

honestly. I go to my car and take a short 15 minute nap. Or perhaps a short walk.

When I feel sleepy or otherwise unproductive I used to walk outside (we have a nice green park) for a few minutes...

I had the same issue until I found out I was diabetic, and the carb accumulation for the day was knocking me out in the afternoons/early evenings. but, I suspect your issue is just casual sleepiness? Been to a doctor lately? Edit: not taking into consideration, general diet and exercise, etc.

I was thinking the same thing. Back when I did low-fat/high carb for a snack and then lunch, I would get tired after lunch... Cutting out the simple carbs, and focusing on protein... Really helped. If getting sleepy is consistently after your lunch, then think about this...

Is everyone ignoring studies that say a few minutes of sleep makes the rest of the day more productive, rather than trying to prop up one's eyelids and engage brain cells that don't want to cooperate? IBM gave us a few minutes twice a day for a break. I assume that rule is generally followed in most large, benevolent organizations. So I can sleep while remaining upright with my hands on the keyboard, and it sometimes happens while I actually have code on the screen. Just make sure that you have the screen saver off, otherwise people will see you staring at a black screen and realize what's going on. I am well over 50, but did this even in my 20's, especially after a late night of dancing. Now, it's just a night of wishing I could fall back to sleep after going to the bathroom. My boss suggested that I should go to my car for a quick nap, although the one time I tried it, some coworkers were taking a walk around the building, noticed me in the car and knocked on the window to make sure I was alright.

I have a little tape loop in my head recording sounds. If someone wakes me, I just refer to the loop for the last couple of minutes of sound and answer appropriately. I did this as a student during classes and apparently foiled instructors who were trying to catch me. What gives me away is apparently some swelling around my eyes.

Who was it, Newton, Edision, Pascal? One of those type guys would hold a spoon between their index finger and thumb over a plate laid on the floor and drowse until they dropped the spoon and the clatter woke them up. About 5 minutes. Get a conference room plate and spoon, just not the paper and plastic kind. OR work from home and no one will know as long as your system sounds for email and messages are loud enough.

Eat something every 2 hours (i.e. instead of "meals") and you'll be more "even" all day long.
