And not very tunefully either. Anybody know how to teach it to hum instead? :(

Try changing the refresh rate(Hz) or turning the monitor off for a few seconds. I remember we had a monitor(21inch) at work that started making funny noises - it eventually caught fire. It was quite a bit of excitement for a boring day :-D

It might be just possible, by lying very still in a cellar somewhere, to get through a day without committing a crime. But only just. Percussive maintenance works on occassion. Perhaps a degauss and a refresh rate change like mentioned above will help. Make sure the CRT isn't near any power lines, i've seen interesting things come about from that... If all else fails, take out your hard drive, open it up, and remove the rare earth magnets that stabalize the heads. (they may be hard to get out, but a hammer and a screw driver usually do the trick) Then take said magnets and place them on the monitor. The excitement of the cool color effects will tame the annoyenco of the whining... - Nitron

Seems to have stopped now. Maybe the monitor telepathically knew it was going to get hit if it didn't stop :) Hope it doesn't catch fire. Don't want to interrupt my surfing working :D

Kick it until it stops... or you need a new Monitor.
