yeah but the 'active' users havn't increased by that much, which means that the vast majority are just signing up to download code.

How could that we have a 8X jump? I only create 50,000 alternate usernames for myself last week.

Any rules are always going to be subjective for stats purposes. For example everywhere in the world different statistical methods are used for determining the national unemployment rates. I think if a user hasn't logged onto CP in a month then it can be easily determined howmany CPians were active for a particular month. Or if it was done daily it could show for the last 30 days. I'm unsure as to why Chris has kept the current front page statistic because it is beginning to have little meaning. The 400k number would already cause a fair bit of sucpicion from prospective advertisers. Regardz Colin J Davies

That isn't hard...all you need is an outward facing Exchange server, the Exchange SDK, and a program to loop through the alphabet: a@mydomain.com b@mydomain.com c@mydomain.com . . . :-D Then of course you would have to automate the setup of CP user accounts...but it wouldn't be that hard with programs like iOpus Internet Macros. (A co-worker used this thing to automate the process of getting about 9,000 PDFs out of an online system that we were about to be locked out of. It's pretty nifty. :))

"How could that we have a 8X jump? I only create 50,000 alternate usernames for myself last week" The explanation is, someone, who is apparently more active than you, keeps forgetting his/her new username and password.

Yeah anyone who has a catchall email domain address can create virtually unlimited emails. I use a different email for depending on who I'm dealing with, so I can divert and manage my mail easier. And people always seem real impressed that I can give out emails like know bodies business.
