Manafort and Gate's crimes predated their association with Trump's campaign and Trump fired Manafort when the allegations came to light. I don't see how that is much of a reflection on Trump.

He did make a statement during the campaign that he only hires the best people.

He surrounded himself with criminals. I am pretty sure if that had been the case with Clinton or Obama, you would have gone apeshit.

I think it's pretty much a given that anyone in Trump's position is going to have something unsavoury in their past - Lord Acton's quote on power summing it up fairly well. I think the more interesting question is perhaps how undermining of the law and also, what is generally termed, natural morality his actions have been.

The difference is that Trump and his crew have been under immense scrutiny and there is a strong motivation to "get" them. Clinton however has been given a free ride. If you really don't think Clinton and her whole family are also surrounded by crooks then that's pretty naive. I wasn't defending Trump. Someone said that if Clinton had been mired in scandal then such-and-such and I was responding to say how she *was* mired in scandal, ergo their argument was void. Anyone not criticising Trump being labelled as "defending" or "supporting" or "a far right racist fascist bigot" are all normal symptoms of Trump Derangement Syndrome.
