I think there should be a difference between basic rights, man on the other hand has assigned himself a whole bunch of additional rights. Actually I take that back, there are no rights except those invented by man. In nature you don't even have the right to live if some bigger, meaner, hungry beastie decides to make you lunch.

Never underestimate the power of human stupidity RAH

That is true. And of course as part of nature man has no real rights either, he can be hit by lightening or attacked by disease at any time. So rights themselves are un-natural? Or are rights an attempt to impose divinity on a cruel nature? But we do have basic rights for animals. For example in farming, and in the UK the RSPCA is very strong, has a lot of power.

It does seem that many apes are already between us, with full rights. Like voting or being elected.

Yeah, quite a few so called humans show little more ability or worth than apes.

Eco-Fearology in the Anthropocene | Thongchai Thailand[^] "SHOWN ABOVE IS THE DESCENT OF THE PLANET FROM ITS PRISTINE PRIMEVAL CONDITION TO ITS HELLISH END IN THE ANTHROPOCENE" (The Anthropocene is a made up term for the current age much used by eco warriors to attempt to convince us man is having a visible impact on geology (epochs and all that are based on rock layers of course)). Here is the crux for me: "A clean and pure pristine primeval planet earth existed for a billion years in natural perfection, wholeness, and wholesomeness – unpolluted, untainted, untarnished and uncorrupted in the perfection of the harmony of nature." Are humans part of nature or not? Clearly the writer of this thinks not. What do you think?

I have it on good authority from me old Mexican mate Jesus, that the planet is only about 6,000 years old.

Life is the opposite of harmony. A daily struggle with predators, parasites, diseases, and animals mating without asking whether the other animal is a he/she/zir/helicopter, or even bothering with things like consent. If there were big cats in your era of "natural perfection", you'd find bloodied rotting bodies everywhere because the cat don't eat the entire thing. Harmony is definitely not the state of nature; it is murder, rape and disease, a daily fight for survival. If you only watched Bambi and the Lion king, then yes, it was a paradise. If you want, you can still visit such paradises, as long as you leave your GSM at home

So you have been to the north of England then? :) But yes, I agree. In fact it is man that has made nature harmonious.

Since I agree with the theory of evolution, nature birthed us and we are a consequence of natural selection. Humanity, therefore, is part of nature. Should humans be cognizant of our individual and group impacts on our environment? Of course we should. We only have one planet for the time being and should take care of it. I'm still undecided on global warming as there is too little data to achieve a meaningful conclusion but there are human activities that are having an obvious environmental impact, such as the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, which can be addressed immediately. We should focus on what's in front of us instead of arguing about unproven theory.

I agree, but don't be misled by the media about the pacific garbage patch, it is not a floating island of plastic. What it is is an area of sea with a high density of tiny plastic particles, about 100kgs per sq km I recall.

I must admit that most of what I know about it is from the documentary Plastic Paradise: The Great Pacific Garbage Patch[^] that documents the impacts to wildlife on Midway Atoll which lies in the center of the north pacific gyre. Don't watch it if you have eaten recently. X| First saw it on Netflix but I did find a posting on YouTube.

This is just another tact in your incessant, unsubstantiated and contradictory climate change crusade. The only thing of interest here is the observation that you do not care a rats ass that the majority of us wish you would stop posting your nonsense on climate change. Unlike you, the rest of us make a point of not using the Soapbox like a cat uses a sand box. And yes, you can finally and correctly consider this last statement as an attack, long overdue because you refuse to be considerate of other CP members who use this forum.

I'll stand with you on this one Ian. Let the record speak for itself...just look back over the last week of trollings. I especially liked the one where he jokes about deaf children getting f*cked by a priest...at least they can't hear the priest grunting, huh Matt? Real classy! X|

you mean 'tack', as in a boats heading. Actually it isnt a post about CAGW, it is a post about environmentalists not seeing man as part of nature. Try to keep it on topic Ian.

Yeah, it is disgusting. We should ban single use non bio degradable plastics overnight, period, no excuses.
