If GH can stand for P as in ‘hiccough’, If OUGH can stand for O as in ‘dough’, If PHTH can stand for T as in ‘phthisis’, If EIGH can stand for A as in ‘neighbour’, If TTE can stand for T as in ‘gazette’, If EAU can stand for O as in ‘plateau’, then the correct way to spell 'potato' would be: GHOUGHPHTHEIGHTTEEAU

Please wait here. I left my torch and my pitchfork at home and will be right back.

I have lived with several Zen masters - all of them were cats. His last invention was an evil Lasagna. It didn't kill anyone, and it actually tasted pretty good.

Similarly, the correct way to spell "fish" is GHOTI.

Exactly. English, has been misspelled now, for hundreds of years, both by British and American citizenry. Perhaps things will change, now that the truth is being told. You know, I used to have arguments with the college professors for years, about these misspellings. They always threatened me with violence and public shaming, if I went public with these secrets. :sigh:

Why does do not sound like no? Suffix a 'w' and it sounds like now, Then prefix a 'k' and it returns to know, Could the inventor please take a bow?

Similarly I once read that Fish could also be spelled as GHOTI. GH sounds as F like in enough O sounds like E as in women TI sounds like sh as in nation. No wonder how many of my neighbors find it difficult to read in English! sheesh!

I learnt two new words today, both medical (I'm not native)! :) At first I though that "phthisis" is a misspeled "phthitties".
