For us Americans, they are 37 years old. They came to North America in 1981. I had no idea they were a thing before that. Interesting story.

1981? I think I saw that stuff years before that. 1978, maybe.
I have lived with several Zen masters - all of them were cats. His last invention was an evil Lasagna. It didn't kill anyone, and it actually tasted pretty good.

I still remember an elementary school teacher railing against the Smurfs, because comics were supposed to get us interested in reading, but the problem with the Smurfs is that it's all Smurf this, and Smurf that, and I'm gonna Smurf your Smurf, and no Smurfing way, etc. So for us young learners, the way she saw it, it brought very little of value to a vocabulary that would last us a lifetime. So nearly 40 years later, I say, Smurf'em.
