Here in the UK, we are reminded every other week on TV to switch our energy suppliers often to make sure we get the best deal. But ... it's a PITA. Then I saw Dragons Den, and a bunch that promise to do all the work for you, and thought "OK, lets see..." and they did very well - they find a better deal, they do the switch for you, I'm happy and several hundred pounds a year better off. Until today when I get an email from them:

Hi Paul, You may have heard recently that Spark Energy has gone out of business.

no, what? You jest ... a quick search and Spark Energy collapse leaves 290,000 without supplier | Business | The Guardian[^] Oh fer Elephant's sake ... I only just switched to those buggers! Anyone want to pay me to use their competitors services? I may be a kiss of death here....

Same thing happened to me recently (Iresa went bust) I had a large credit balance because they never billed me and they also paid me interest on my credit balance! maybe explains why they went bust.... Advice was don't change, any outstanding balance(credit or debit) will be transferred to a new company appointed by the regulator. Any credit balance is protected by the regulator. It all went smoothly, with the new supplier putting us onto their best tariff and charging my credit balance for the power used on the original Iresa rates. Once balance transferred we could then move to another supplier. If you change mid-bankruptcy it can delay refunds of any credit balance. Apparently multiple smaller suppliers at the cheaper end of the supply market have gone under this year.

They don't actually supply anything, it's all smoke and mirrors.

This is one of the reasons I don't switch bank accounts. I desperately want to but I just don't trust these automated systems not to **** it up. When you make a living writing these kinds of systems the more complex you know it is the less confident you are that their developers have done it right lol How to auto switch bank account. Been given this task and don't know how to start, plz send codes it's urgent.

Years ago, Bank of America bought out the tiny little bank that I was using in Cardiff by the Sea, CA (north of San Diego.) I intentionally moved all but about $15 to another bank, not trusting BofA. Sure enough, after the "transition", I went to the ATM to check my balance and had over $25,000! Turns out "they" had merged my account with someone else's. I always wonder who "they" are? Was this some bug in the software? A random cosmic ray glitch?

Spark Energy - Wikipedia[^] "The company ceased trading on 23 November 2018 after a series of major failures, including the failure to pay the industry regulator Ofgem to the sum of £14.4 Million for their renewables obligation (RO) payment." Er hum. Need we say more?

Thank Bog I just bought 1000 shares of a well established supplier of candles in the UK! I'd invest in warm, fuzzy sheep, too, but I'm sure you already have your favorites - for warmth, of course. Wise choice, renewable and organic! :-D
