VS2017 looks like a clown factory

I must be doing something wrong. It works great for me. Then again, I'm left handed so I'm used to being different.

Is that like a vegan thing? Never missing an opportunity to tell others...?

I ain't sayin' it doesn't work - I'm sayin' it's like crap on a cracker as delivered. I'll be playing settings whack-a-mole for a few days, trying to get it so it can't be seen from space.

I see a few light bulbs here and there but nothing that bothers me. Maybe if you wrote better code it wouldn't suggest so much? ;)

What's up with all the clown car crap going on in the editor? Every time I move the cursor, the editor lights up like room full of freakin clown noses. There's so much going on that it's hugely distracting.

I have it (VS 2017) installed but rarely use it as VS 2010 still handles most of my needs, is stable and starts blazingly fast...and to think, I'm missing out on all these new features!

It took it 5 years to die? Total garbage!! If it were iPhone it would've slowed down to the point where you couldn't have used it 3 years ago. Thus enabling you to have an excuse to buy new technology.

*Raises hand* Yes, and unlike all of my Android devices, it still gets regularly patched, despite being "dead" (and Android supposedly leading).

OP said 2017 but I read it as 2019 because I just installed 2019 and it has those annoying popup features. I think he meant 2019. I had used 2017 for many months and it doesn't have those popups. I think OP just said wrong version??

Oh, I didn't see you there in the back. You are consolation prize Winner of the Official No-Prize. Please stand still while it is shipped to you. Our shipping dept often gets lost.

:-) My dad's a leftie, and apparently when I started writing as a kid I was using my left hand also but I'm told someone forced me to "correct" that. I have no such recollection. All I know is that these days my handwriting wouldn't be much worse if I started using my left hand.

What programming language is that? Haiku-thon? Visual Basipoetry?
Nono, it's the HARSH language: HARSH - Esolang[^] :-\

When you pry the gun from my cold dead hands, be careful - the barrel will be very hot. - JSOP, 2013Not seen 2019 yet, but when first started 2017 all the methods had weird spacing and text above them. I never wrote anything there. Also the line numbers had spaces in them. 30 31, big gap 32 33?? Add Team Server repo, and even more text is added. Googled wtf, found how to change to make smaller less intrusive. But now find them very help. Talking about method references, commit change notices and the like. Some of these things have a "don't show this again" option, and others you have to go into some rules or settings to turn them off. But it's like swotting flies, as soon as you whack one a couple more turn up. Dunno who'se behind this crap, but seems the evelotion of vs goes something like: vs2010 - do a few things but do them pretty well vs2013 - do a more then a few things, but some only averagely vs2015 - do even more things, ran out of time (2017 came up) so left half done vs2017 - do a boat load of stuff but only half- assed, don't fix anything, just add even more vs2019 - pre-releases / announcements indicate goal is to find out how much that puppy will hold oh, vscode starting to go down the same path, ... I tried it, I really tried hard, nah. I'm sure it'll be fine for the hobby devs and some juniors, but for serous work, nah. When you want a "Swiss army knife" you buy the real thing, not some knockoff. ms and multi-os-multi-language, heck just ms and linux - again maybe fine for beginners but not for anyone with proper ability.

Am I the only one bothered by the frequency of the "releases"? Are they real improvements? Or are they just Marketing ploys to boost sales? How much is just fluff and glitz?
Tired of sprinting to keep up....

Lopatir - you nailed the assessment of the Visual Studio versions. Not to mention that each new version is more cloud connected meaning that the tool is slower with every release as it waits to check in with the mothership at Redmond every time it starts. I miss the days when everything you needed from an IDE was on your hard drive. IDE, Compiler, Help files, Samples, Etc. Yes help can get stale, but that is the time to connect to the internet not every login.
