A while back I picked up my first 4k monitor - a Dell U2515H ultrasharp. They are out of production now, but the model that replaced it simply blows compared to the U2515H. If you don't have one or more 4k monitors, you're missing things. VS is actually usable with all of the real-estate available. Back to cubicle conversations...

Personally I don't see the fuss that is made of 4K the human eye can't detect any real difference...

It's more of a real-estate issue. I can actually have multiple working tabs open in my development tools without occlusion.... but I agree with the comment about the eye...

I'm pretty fond of my three: 1 * 22" in Portrait (Chrome), 1 * 22" in Landscape (Visual Studio), and 1 * 19" square jobbie (email and odds'n'ends). I have to move my head quite enough to keep working with them (but I can see 1 and 3 in my peripheral vision when concentrating on VS).

But we're not talking about a TV across a room, we're talking about a monitor on a desk. I use a 4K 40" TV as my monitor (well, one of them anyway). That means I get 3840x2160 on a display 40 inches across. Human eye limits or not, that means I get twice the resolution (for each axis) I would get if I was only spreading 1920x1080 across that same surface area. I get 4 times the real-estate, so what I could do on a 1080p monitor, I can do in a quarter of the space available. Which means I can load (and view) a lot more windows at the same time. If the text was so small I'd need to rescale to 200%, then I'd agree--you're just blowing up 1 pixel to be rendered by 4 and that's a complete waste. Those who don't see the point of the 8K displays currently being introduced at CES are all complaining about the lack of media availability. I don't care for watching movies at 8K - but if I could get a display that can show 7680x4320 for a reasonable amount of money, I'd be replacing my 4K monitor *and* the additional 1080p monitors with a single panel.

I used to have 4 32" monitors setup in a vertical side-by-side on my desk. Each costs over $2K. Visual Studio doesn't play nice if you need to expand across monitors, it shudders. Got rid of all those and opt for a 55" 4K Samsung border-less, curved. Much better and smoother with VS. Beside it admires everyone walked by and it only cost 800 bucks. And much happier. :laugh:

Last time I was looking at a monitor, 4k seemed to only be useful once you get to 30+ inches. I went with two 27 inch monitors instead. Thinking if I need more in a few years (second desk or whatever), I'd go 4k and 30+ inches then.
