"...The bottom line is that treaties, taxes, and tyranny won't curb smoking in the United States or abroad," Neale said. "It's time to snuff out the U.S. role in the global anti-tobacco treaty." ""U.S. politicians have no right ordering Americans not to smoke -- much less people halfway around the world," Neale said. "Smoking is a personal choice, not an international crisis. Adults should have the right to engage in behavior that hurts no one but themselves, as long as they're willing to accept the consequences."" http://www.lp.org/press/archive.php?function=view&record=642[^] I am tired of politics and law makers! It's not that I don't think smoking is not bad, it is just the fact that our freedoms are getting eliminated day by day by each law made, it seems:( <On the other hand, this might be a sign that the tobacco companies might not have a death grip on US politicians anymore.> Later,

Smoking *can* hurt others, if you are not careful who you do it around. of course, so can speaking your mind indiscriminately, albeit in different ways... The US has a responsibility to do this, as we are home to many large tobacco companies. and weapons manufacturers... And it is occasionally necessary to limit freedoms for a greater good. besides, if you think smoking tobacco is getting unnecessarily difficult, try lighting up certain other sorts of dried vegetation... you ain't seen nothing yet. :|

Shog9 wrote: it is occasionally necessary to limit freedoms for a greater good. It is never acceptable to limit personal freedom for any greater good. It is, however, entirely acceptable to punish and hold accountable those who exercise their freedoms in an irresponsible manner resulting in harm to others.

(no way!) remember, GWB lost the popular vote. but that hasn't stopped him from totally ignoring the desires of anyone but a minority of the minority who voted for him. To vote with no response is to follow the way of the coward.

The system of checks and balances are in place, we just have to use it properly. I know in the '92 race, Perot used many of the Libertarian ideas, this forced the other candidates to address these issues, I think this lead to two successfull terms for Bill C. And the country was overall pretty happy. Now matter what, the main point thrown in the face of voting third party, imo, is "to vote for a winner", don't throw your vote away. I hate this analogy for many reasons. My Grandfather loved to use this argument against me. Later,
