When will we have real full color CGI action ? Did you notice that in the matrix, the colors are not quite there ? I mean everyone is wearing black , white or beige. The action scenes are almost totally devoid of colors. I assume they are using low colors because they want faster rendering using cheaper hardware. You wont notice it if you arent looking. Cmon - atleast use 256 colors  V

??? You're kidding around? They were all in black, white and beige because it makes them look really frickin' cool! I'm sure you'll find a few (hundred thousand) sites on the tech they used, and I'm sure you'll find that they used unbelievably high quality photo rendering. J

*paul chokes on his kahuna sandwiche* You are taking the piss, right? I mean you are just trying to push our buttons, right? If not then... First off: Not every scene in the Matrix is CGI. Only bits. Second off: The colours are intentional. It is the style of the movie. Black is always in fashion. Black is cool. The Matrix is meant to be devoid of colour, with vivid colour (like the lady in the red dress in the original) meant to draw our intention because it stands out. The lack of colour hints towards the fact that this is all not real. Notice that Zion has many vivid colours in it. It is real world and starkly contrasts with the Matrix. So in conclusion: Go consult a fashion consultant. Realise that lack of colour was intentional. :)

The scenes in DC are blue and dim. It is not a problem with their camera equipment or cheap video editing software, it was an intentional style to seperate the two locations.

Wow I had not thought of that until now. You only catch a glimpse of her in the Matrix, but I reckon you are right. Same build and Hollywood blonde hair. Good one Jamie. The Matrix: Women in red = Fiona Johnson The Matrix Realoaded: Chocolate orgasm lady = No idea, can't find out (but you are probably right)

Traffic was good. In that movie the effects really worked for the movie. Not for the Matrix. When Neo fights a dozen Mr Smiths in a apartment playground, we are in the real world. I mean the Matrix is simulating a real world isnt it. A real world has colors. I dont recall seeing much color in that scene. If you say the lack of colors is supposed to hint that we are in a "simulated real world", then why do we have lots of color in other scenes? Overall , it is a well known fact that todays state of the art in CGI prefers darkness to brightness, low color to high color. In dark environments, all of the observers attention can be focused on an illuminated subject - so the "dark stuff" can be efficiently rendered or even clipped. The movie didnt suck. The CGI was just too evident.

I am pretty sure it can handle colour just fine, hawain shirts and all. Thanks for the link paul. Good one. Also check out insidecg.com No doubt these guys are extreeemely talented. The best we have. My point was the hardware is just not there yet.

Colour (note correct spelling ;P) isn't much of a factor in CGI, its the mechanical details that cause problems. Elaine :rose: The tigress is here :-D

Er, CGI may not be quite perfect yet, but i do believe they've progressed a bit beyond VGA in their rendering capabilities. As i recall, "Fight Club" also had a rather dark, washed-out look to it, but i somehow doubt this was for the benefit of the CGI team...
