I have met DD in real life, so you don't have to. :suss:

When I first joined Code Project I loved getting the newsletter with the witty comments under the headings. I still enjoy these. Over all these years my favourite place on CP is the lounge. It is such a great place to visit and be in. I rarely go anywhere else here, except to download some code or example. I don't respond very often, but I do enjoy and love it here in the lounge. I often wonder what the people look like in real life. Some offer this but most don't. I can understand why. But one of the best things about CP is that I will enjoy and be entertained by people that I wouldn't like in real life. OK that is a bit of an assumption. Maybe true or not, but that is what I feel sometimes. E.G. I miss Dalek Dave. I always loved his posts. But i doubt that I would have liked him in real life. This is what makes the lounge a special place. Anyone else feel the same?

I liked DD, and was sorry to see him leave.

Is he still ranting about Gypsies on farcebok and twatter? Or has he started on Brexit?

Gods know! I blocked him even before the referendum as I was sick of the lies he was regurgitating. Haven't heard anything for 3 years now.

I think that most of us feel the same way JSOP. Such a shame that he has gone. He has left a void here with his absence for sure.

In reality I would like to meet DD in real life. Just like you. I am sure that his gusto and style would still entertain and enthral me. Just saying that if i didn't know him at all and just met him, then my reaction may be different. Seeing all his posts in the lounge, gave me a deeper understanding about what DD was about. Meant that i was more open to him than I would normally be without this info. I miss him.... and I miss hearing about things Luton. I used DD as an example because he is effectively deceased as far as CP goes now. It applies to others on here as well. Not you though. I have always thought that Big Willie was OK and likeable in real life as well as in the lounge.

Trust me on this one. He is generally okay, but unless you're right of Attila don't bother. Imagine Jacob Rees-Mogg in Boris Johnson's body, with Michael Gove's charm and Esther McVey's brains.

I have a very similar story, finding this site around 12 years ago via Google and joining for the newsletters. (Thanks Kent for the daily zingers! ) Also like you, I spend the vast majority of my time here in the Lounge enjoying the wit, sarcasm, and mostly interesting conversations, thoughts, and rants of the cast here. There are some really smart and witty people here! :)

You are correct in that it is social media. I have never really thought of that. I have always just regarded the lounge as a BBS, ahem, a Forum.

Being unreal used to be a good thing. Being real and unreal at the same time now is still OK. Well better than Ok.

A great post grralph1. I start my workday with the newsletter to get the neurons firing. I often end up here. It's a pleasant little eddy in life's river of BS. Thanks to all who make this happen.

Well like the broken quote goes I [submit posts] therefor I am. But I cannot prove that all the other posts are posted from real people, and not some self generating posting machine. :sigh:

I liked DD, and was sorry to see him leave.
