Not to be a "Negative Nancy" but VSS is just about the worse development tool I have ever used esp. when it comes to significantly sized projects. It is fine for a small projects but just dose not scale well. Don't belive me? Look as MS, they moved their development teams away from it long ago. It would be a shame and waste of time to have to migrate a VSS repisitory to something like CVS or any of the better SCMs well into a project. Hey don't worry, I can handle it. I took something. I think the person who's in charge of a particular project will choose the language. I won't help much if it isn't .NET, though. ;)

Basic application framework with support for: :rose: Addins - the kind of addin can be as powerful as the original application :rose: Commands - self-runnable commands that can be invoked by menus, toolbars, or code :rose: Properties - A framework for easily reading and writing properties - including an interface for persisting any class to XML. :rose: Messages - a system for outputting messages that abstracts the message from the output method, so that the same message can be outputted to a message box, a statusbar, a log file, an MS Agent character, etc. :rose: Services - everything that performs an action for another object is a service. There can be services such as help, file IO, etc.

I think this is a fine idea. Marc Clifton has already sown the seeds as far as I am concerned. After his series of articles I don't look at application development the same way. Marc are you reading? Any chances in moving the AAL from a source forge project to a part or subporject of the new CP project? Hey don't worry, I can handle it. I took something. I'm looking at something between Marc's and SharpDevelop's frameworks, with the best of my ideas thrown in, too. :) Hey, if you like it, give it a vote. ;)

What I like best are the addin/codon stuff, and the XML property persistance. What I don't like is: :rose: they still don't have a unified user message system. :rose: they don't have a good menu/toolbar system - I have an idea which would only use commands, which could be on menus or toolbars, and would allow user customization of menus/toolbars.

I was just thinking the same thing. Maybe we can break it up into a group of subprojects? Also, we may see the sourceforge effect where there is a flurry of activity with new projects and it seems to taper off fairly quickly. Hey don't worry, I can handle it. I took something. Actually, mainly 'cause if it wasn't .NET, it would probably be MFC or ATL and I don't have those.

How about an artificial life project with a CP twist? imagine Reproducing Bobs... Seriously, would anyone be interested in an ALife/AI project? This may satisfy JoeSox and also give the rest of us some AI experience.

I actually tossed around the idea of a .NET engine that we could write plug-ins for, and which could battle each other and use primitive AI to attack, defend, build, repair and form clans. And then Microsoft built Terrarium  cheers, Chris Maunder

Using P2P it would make it easier collect information than if you were to use Google, because many people would be apart of this. The AI part of this would be determining the subjects of the content.
